A couple weeks ago, I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down to talk with THE Michelle Sherrier of Michelle Sherrier and Michelle Sherrier 🙌💗 a little bit about all things shopping, retail world + events, plus how I stumbled into this career over 30 years ago.
If you own a boutique of any type, and you aren’t already listening to Michelle’s podcast, you are in for a treat. There’s a couple that I’ve even listened to more than once - there are so many juicy bits!

This convo reminded me of WAY back, when my dad had first started running his boutique, I thought it was odd that he had beanie babies and those little slide link charm bracelets in a shop of mostly imports from Europe. But it was actually brilliant. You need something people can and will come back for. And they did - especially those little charms. People would buy a starter bracelet with one charm and then return every time there was any special occasion and add to it. You have them in your shop, which is half the battle during slower seasons…
My dad ended up having his shop for about 18 years and the former owners 13 🙌

Experts say in person shopping is making a comeback and I agree. We are sick of the cookie cutter items you can get anywhere on the internet. We want the hunt and I think we also just feel good when we shop local.
I know that I love an event and am generally swept up in happiness and more likely to find something when I’m with friends 🥂
