ZUNMO SAYS NOTHING WRONG WITH NURSES ATTENDING PRESIDENT HICHILEMA'S CAMPAIGN RALLIES SEEKING JOBS

The Zambia Union of Nurses and Midwives’ Organisation, -ZUNMO-Says there is nothing wrong with nurses who have continued attending President Hakainde Hichilema’s campaign rallies in the hope of securing employment.

ZUNMO President Fray Michelo said there are no legal restrictions preventing nurses from doing so, adding that like members of other professions, nurses are also seeking employment opportunities and are simply taking advantage of the President’s recruitment pledges during his campaign.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Michelo has thanked President Hichilema for considering the recruitment of volunteer nurses, describing the move as beneficial to the country’s healthcare system.

Meanwhile, Mr. Michelo has backed the President’s call for nurses to refrain from using mobile phones while on duty, saying the practice can endanger patients’ lives if abused.

While acknowledging that mobile phones can be used as reference tools in the course of patient care, Mr. Michelo said the devices should not be used in a manner that distracts nurses from their responsibilities, as doing so contravenes the medical profession’s code of ethics.
