𝐀 𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲!

From helping her mum in the kitchen growing up in Durban to becoming a celebrated chef in London, Chef Nokx Moyo has taken the flavours of South Africa with her around the world.

Now Chef Nokx is celebrating our food heritage with her first cookbook, South African Cookbook — packed with flavour-filled recipes inspired by the dishes we know and love, from braai favourites and street food to pies, pastries, sides and, of course, a few South African classics.

And what would a South African cookbook be without Peppermint Crisp Tart?

So, ahead of Heritage Day tomorrow, here’s Chef Nokx’s wonderfully easy, no-bake version for you to try!

𝐏𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐩 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬
Serves 4
You’ll need:
• 450ml whipping cream, plus 125ml for serving
• 1 x 397g tin caramel
• 4 x 35g Peppermint Crisp bars (or Peppermint Aero)
• 1 packet Tennis biscuits or coconut biscuits

To make:
Whip 450ml cream until firm peaks form. Gently fold through the caramel.
Chop the peppermint crisp into shards and lightly crush the biscuits.
Layer half the caramel cream, crushed biscuits and half the peppermint crisp in four dessert glasses. Add the remaining caramel cream and smooth the tops.
Cover and refrigerate for 1½–4 hours.
Whip the remaining 125ml cream. Top each tart with a dollop of cream and finish with the remaining peppermint crisp.

1 shot Gin
1 shot Sweet Vermouth
1 shot Campari
2 Dashes Angostura orange bitters
Orange zest for garnish

Add the gin, sweet vermouth, Campari and orange bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir well until well chilled, then strain it into an old-fashioned glass over fresh ice. Express an orange twist over the cocktail to release its fragrant oil, then use it as garnish.
