One of the biggest mistakes in a gel service is treating every product like it does the same
A dehydrator isn’t a primer.
A gel polish isn’t a rubber base.
And 2 in 1 base definitely isn’t a top coat.
Each product is formulated to do something specific and understanding why you’re using each one is just as important as knowing how to apply it.
When you use the right product for the right step, you’re creating a more intentional, professional gel system from prep to finish.
So before you swap products or skip a step, ask yourselt:
“What is this product actually designed to do?”

Did you know your rubber base is only as good as the products underneath it? 👀💅
If you’re chasing better retention, don’t just focus on the rubber base. Every product in your system has a job, and skipping one can affect your final results.

The 5 products every rubber base service needs:

1️⃣ Prep Tools
Create a clean foundation for better adhesion.
2️⃣ Nail Dehydrator
Removes oils and moisture from the nail plate.
3️⃣ Super Bond Primer
Improves the bond between the natural nail and your gel system.
4️⃣ Rubber Base
Adds strength, flexibility, and support to natural nails.
5️⃣ No-Wipe Top Coat
Seals, protects, and gives your manicure a long-lasting shine.

When every product works together, you get the retention your clients keep coming back for. ✨

Your rubber base isn’t the problem… 👀💅

If your rubber base isn’t lasting the way you expected, don’t be so quick to blame the bottle. Here are 5 truths about rubber base that every nail tech (and client) should know:

1️⃣ Rubber base isn’t designed to fix poor prep. Even the best formula can’t bond properly to an unprepared nail.

2️⃣ Not all rubber bases perform the same. Ingredients, flexibility, and adhesion vary from brand to brand, so choosing a quality product matters.

3️⃣ Rubber base is made to strengthen natural nails not make them indestructible. It adds support and flexibility, but your nails still need proper care.

4️⃣ Application is just as important as the product. The right amount of product, correct apex placement, and proper curing all affect how your manicure performs.

5️⃣ Rubber base is part of a system. For the best retention, it should work alongside proper prep, a dehydrator, primer, and a quality top coat.

The reality? A great rubber base can deliver beautiful, long lasting results but only when it’s paired with the right products and the right technique. ✨

Rubber base doesn’t have to be confusing. 💅

Here are the answers to three of the questions we get asked the most:

✨ What is rubber base?
A gel product that helps strengthen natural nails by adding support, preventing breakage, and creating a smooth base for your manicure.

✨ Can you fill in rubber base nails?
Yes! As long as there’s no lifting or damage, rubber base can usually be infilled. Your nail tech can refresh the grown-out area instead of removing everything.

✨ How long should rubber base last?
A properly applied rubber base manicure can last around 3–4 weeks. Good prep, quality products, and proper aftercare all play a part in long-lasting results.

Sometimes it’s the little habits between appointments that make the biggest difference.

💅🏼Don’t peel your gel.
Peeling removes layers of your natural nail, leaving them thinner, weaker, and more prone to breakage.

💅🏼Don’t cut your cuticles at home.
Your cuticles act as a protective barrier for new nail growth. Cutting them incorrectly can cause irritation and increase the risk of infection.

💅🏼Don’t ignore lifting.
Lifting creates a gap where moisture and debris can become trapped, and the longer it’s left, the worse it can get.

Healthy nails are a partnership between your nail tech and your at-home care. 💖

Your retention isn’t just luck… it’s all in the prep. 👀💅

If your clients are dealing with lifting or chipping, these 5 retention hacks can make a huge difference to how long their nails last.

✨ Remove ALL non-living tissue from the nail plate – any remaining cuticle creates a barrier between the natural nail and your product, making lifting much more likely.

✨ Work your dehydrator & primer into the nail plate – don’t just swipe it on. Even coverage helps create the best possible bond for maximum adhesion.

✨ Float your base instead of pressing it into the nail – this helps the product self-level, reduces the risk of air pockets, and improves adhesion.

✨ Seal every layer at the free edge – not just your top coat. Sealing each layer helps reduce tip wear and prevents premature chipping.

✨ Build enough structure for your client’s nail length – the right apex supports the nail, reduces flex, and helps prevent lifting and breakage.

Good retention starts long before the top coat. 💅

Not all gel systems are created the equal.

The products you choose are just as important as the techniques you use. While no product can completely eliminate the risk of allergies, choosing HEMA- & TPO-free formulations, following correct application methods, and using products with supporting safety documentation can all help create a safer service for you and your clients.

That’s why we’ve chosen to stock products that are HEMA- & TPO-free and FDA approved, because education and quality should always come first.
