Rugby runs deeply through the Kriel family. Jesse’s great-grandfather played international rugby, while his twin brother, Daniel, is also a professional player. The brothers remain extremely close, having grown up playing the game and pursuing their careers together.
Jesse is not married but has been in a long-term relationship. He is valued by his family for the man he is, not because he is a Springbok.

Described by teammates as an “absolute machine”, Jesse is versatile, conscientious and dependable. He reads the game exceptionally well, reorganises the defensive line and creates opportunities for those around him.
He is a team player rather than someone preoccupied with personal glory. Even while captaining Japan’s Yokohama Canon Eagles, he acknowledges that there is always room to improve.
His leadership is rooted in consistency, care and listening, not in being the loudest voice in the room. Jesse reminds us that you do not need to demand attention to earn respect.
