Can you balance without holding your breath?

Balance isn't just about keeping yourself upright.

It's about how your brain and body respond when your position changes.

When balance becomes challenging, many people unconsciously hold their breath and tense their muscles.

But balance doesn't require rigidity.

It requires constant communication between your brain, muscles, joints, eyes, feet and inner ear and your breathing continues throughout it all.

In KinRe®, we practise balance while maintaining relaxed, controlled breathing.

Why?

Because we're not just teaching the body to stay upright.

We're teaching it to stay responsive without becoming tense.

That's an important difference.

Good balance isn't about being completely still.

It's about making thousands of tiny adjustments while remaining relaxed, aware and in control.

Control without tension. Movement without holding your breath.

That's KinRe®.

Watch the movement and notice my breathing. Do you hold your breath when something becomes challenging?

Save this reel and try to keep breathing the next time you practise your balance.

Balance challenge with eyes shut.

Your balance isn't controlled by your legs alone.

Your brain constantly combines information from your:

👀 Eyes
👣 Feet
🦵 Muscles and joints
👂 Inner ear

Together, this information tells your brain where your body is in space and helps it make the tiny adjustments needed to keep you upright.

Now try this:

Stand near a sturdy chair, counter or wall.

Find your balance with your eyes open.

Then, close your eyes for just a few seconds.

Notice what happens.

You may suddenly feel much less stable.

That's because you've removed one of the major sources of information your brain uses to control balance.

Your body now has to rely much more heavily on information from your feet, joints, muscles and inner ear.

That's why balance is brain training too.

At KinRe®, we don't simply train muscles.

We challenge the communication between your brain and body—building awareness, coordination, strength and confidence.

⚠️ Safety first: Keep a stable support within reach and don't try this if you feel unsafe or dizzy.

Try it safely and tell me: did closing your eyes make your balance noticeably harder?

Save this post and challenge yourself again later this week.

Balance isn't just about your legs. It's also about your brain.

When you stand on one leg, something incredible is happening.

Your brain is constantly receiving information from your:

👣 Feet
🦵 Muscles and joints
👀 Eyes
👂 Inner ear

Your brain processes all of this information and makes thousands of tiny adjustments to keep you upright.

Your ankle moves.

Your hips respond.

Your core switches on.

Your eyes help orient you.

Your brain makes rapid decisions about how to keep you balanced.

That's why balance is so much more than having "strong legs."

Balance is a conversation between your brain and your body.

And like any skill, it can be trained.

As we get older, maintaining this connection becomes increasingly important for confidence, coordination and reducing the risk of falls.

At KinRe®, balance isn't something we simply "have" or "lose."

We practise it. We challenge it. We improve it.

And we do it through controlled movement that develops strength, awareness, coordination and confidence.

ry this today: Stand near something you can hold onto and see how long you can comfortably stand on one leg.

Then switch sides.

Did one side feel easier than the other? Tell me below!

X Files: At 68 years of age, this gentleman's lumbar vertebrae, L3, L4, L5, S1 was diagnosed with the following as per MRI report : , neural foraminal and .

Pain rate was 5/10, intermittent and sharp referring to left lateral (outside) foot. Could not carry a cup of tea in each hand and walk up the stairs.

After 4 weeks of Biokinetics and ongoing KinCouS® (for abdominal core, balancing back muscles parallel, diagonally to the spine and reaction time), this gentleman can now walk up stairs carrying a cup of tea in each hand! Happy to be free of pain, he is considering back surgery, before he is too old. It's a tough decision but exploring all facts and options first, will help .

It is so rewarding to work with such dedication and motivation! All the very best! 😃

What if getting upright could teach your spine how to stack itself?

Think of your spine like a tower of building blocks.

In KinRe®, we use a slow, controlled movement from hands and knees, using a chair for support, to gradually roll up through the spine into an upright kneeling position.

Instead of lifting the whole trunk in one movement, we allow the spine to unroll and stack progressively, one segment after another, until the head is upright over the pelvis.

This gives the body time to coordinate the movement between the spine, pelvis, core and hips. Additionally because we're moving slowly, you can actually feel what your body is doing.

It's not about forcing your spine straight.

It's about developing awareness, control and strength through movement.

That's KinRe®.

Don't just move your body. Teach it how to move.

Have you ever thought about your spine as a stack of building blocks?

Save this reel and watch how your spine moves the next time you get upright.

Your spine is the building. Your muscles are part of the support system.

Think about building a structure from blocks. You wouldn't expect the blocks, joints and framework to support everything without adequate support around them.

Your spine is similar.

Your vertebrae, discs, joints and ligaments provide the framework but your muscles provide active support and control.

That's why building strength matters.

Strong, well-coordinated muscles help your body:

✔️ Support and stabilise the spine
✔️ Control movement
✔️ Distribute loads more effectively
✔️ Reduce unnecessary strain on passive structures
✔️ Help you move with greater confidence and efficiency

And here's the important part:

Strength isn't just about lifting heavy weights.

It's about teaching your muscles to work together, at the right time, in the right way.

That's why KinRe® combines controlled movement, core strengthening, balance and progressive resistance.

We're not trying to make your body work harder for the sake of it.

We're building a stronger support system around the body you already have.

How strong do you think your body's support system is? Comment STRONG or NEEDS WORK below.

A throw back from 2018 before KinRe® and KinCouS® were available online!😃

KinRe® Comments: Good news... I am getting there!
I am a psychologist with burnout. I tried many interventions and then I joined KinRe®, realizing I needed to work on my nervous system! Within 5 sessions I am relaxing more and more with each session, which is difficult when one is constantly in overdrive. But the good news is I am getting there! I can feel my muscles are getting firmer and my body looser too! I am recommending KinRe to friends for sure!

Is one side of your lower back always tighter than the other?

Your quadratus lumborum (QL) is a deep muscle that helps stabilise your pelvis and spine every time you stand, walk, or bend.

When it becomes overworked, it often feels tight, tender, and uncomfortable.

A simple movement can help.

Sit on the edge of your bed or a firm chair and gently lift one hip, then the other.

As each side of your pelvis rises and lowers, your QL gently shortens and lengthens.

This small movement helps restore normal motion between your pelvis and lower back without forcing a stretch.

It also encourages your pelvis to move more freely instead of relying on one tight muscle to do all the work.

Many people notice that as their pelvis moves more easily, the feeling of tightness begins to ease.

At KinRe®, we don't just stretch tight muscles.

We teach the body to move more efficiently.

Because when movement becomes easier, muscles no longer have to work so hard.

Try this movement for one minute. Did one side feel stiffer than the other? Let me know what you noticed.
