October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the most useful thing we can share is this: early detection can save lives 🩷

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among South African women after non-melanoma skin cancer, with a lifetime risk of 1 in 28. It was once diagnosed mostly in women over 50, but it is now affecting more women in their 30s and late 20s.

A breast self-examination takes only a few minutes. Do it once a month, ideally at the same time of day, so you know what is normal for you. Not sure how to check? CANSA's step-by-step guide is available via the link in bio.

Look out for lumps, thickening, dimpling, changes in the shape or size of the breast or ni**le, discharge, rash or swelling.

Not every lump is cancer, but any change should be checked by a health practitioner.
