The Tondo Table, a sculptural cork side table.

This concept has been evolving in our studio for some time. While we’ve created similar pieces before, we never had the opportunity to properly document or share them. The Tondo Table allowed us to revisit the idea, refine the form and develop it into a considered addition to our collection.

The piece features three solid cork legs with softly rounded edges, supporting a circular top with a solid 12mm n**e porcelain inlay. The contrast between the textured cork and the textured porcelain surface creates a strong sculptural presence.

We love the honesty of this piece. Simple in form, organic in shape and thoughtful in its use of materials, it reflects our ongoing exploration of cork as both a natural and architectural material.

Available to view in our showroom.

Our long-standing collaboration with celebrates the possibilities that emerge when innovation, thoughtful design and sustainability come together. As the world’s largest cork producer and a global leader in the industry, has helped us explore cork not just as a material, but as a medium for design at scale.

Requested by the Portuguese Ambassador to South Africa and supported by , this exhibition brought together a selection of Wiid Design pieces alongside specialist cork applications from Amorim - showcasing the versatility of cork across design and the industry.

From functional objects to large-scale statement pieces, the exhibition highlighted cork as one of Portugal’s most significant natural materials, while also reflecting our shared belief that luxury and sustainability can coexist beautifully. Together, we’ve pushed the boundaries of what cork can do, including creating world-first pieces that position African design proudly on the global stage.

Designing the Soma and Terra planter collections for INDIGENUS Planters has been one of the most rewarding and long-standing collaborations of our studio. The Soma collection was designed in 2014, followed by the Terra collection in 2017.

When I first started working with Indigenus, the brief was to create a collection that felt sculptural yet timeless. I was inspired by the quiet strength of tree trunks and the way natural forms feel grounded without demanding attention. That thinking became the foundation for Soma.

The name Soma comes from the Greek word for “body” and, in botanical terms, refers to the physical structure of a plant: its stem, leaves and roots. The planter was designed as a grounded architectural extension of this living form, allowing the plant to remain the central focus.

The response to Soma was incredible and naturally led to the development of Terra, whose name comes from the Latin word for “earth.” Building on the same design language, Terra introduced solid Iroko timber bases that lift the glass-reinforced concrete planters from the ground, creating a lighter, more architectural presence while remaining connected to nature.

For me, the success of both collections comes down to collaboration. Working with Indigenus allowed us to combine thoughtful design with exceptional craftsmanship, international marketing and distribution, resulting in pieces equally suited to residential landscapes, hospitality projects and public spaces.

Years later, Soma and Terra remain part of the INDIGENUS Planters collection, and I am proud to see these designs finding homes in projects around the world.

Currently in production for local and international clients, our Cork Wine Coolers are taking shape in small, medium and large sizes, available in both light and dark cork finishes.

Our Cork Wine Coolers and Ice Buckets have been part of our collection for many years and remain as popular today as when they were first launched. For centuries, cork has been synonymous with wine; here, the material is redefined as a vessel for cooling and serving it.

Natural, recyclable and highly insulating, cork keeps bottles chilled while remaining lightweight, durable and tactile. Each piece is fitted with a robust aluminium inner liner designed to hold ice, wine or champagne, with an open form that allows for effortless serving.

A distinctive, functional object designed for hospitality environments and private interiors alike.
