Your skin does not need to be “detoxed” after the holidays. It needs support, recovery, and consistency. Think barrier repair, hydration, and calming inflammation not stripping, scrubbing, or starting five new products at once.
Myth: “After the holidays, my skin needs a full detox.”
Reality: Your skin is not dirty or toxic. Breakouts, dullness, dehydration, and sensitivity are often signs of stress, disrupted sleep, excess sugar or alcohol, travel, sun exposure, or an impaired skin barrier. The goal is to restore balance not punish your skin
Your post-holiday skin reset should be simple and supportive: gentle cleansing, barrier-friendly moisturising, daily SPF, hydration, good sleep, and balanced meals. If your skin feels tight, reactive, flaky, or inflamed, pause harsh actives and focus on repair first.
Skip the aggressive scrubs, “detox” masks, and complicated 10-step routines. A gentle cleanser, hydrating serum, moisturiser, and morning SPF are often enough to get your skin back on track. Consistency beats intensity especially when your barrier is compromise
My morning skincare routine is intentionally simple, consistent, and focused on protecting my skin.
✨ First, a splash of water. Over-cleansing can disrupt the skin barrier, so unless I’ve exercised or applied heavy products overnight, water is often all I need in the morning.
✨ Next, I layer my serums:
• Complete Serum for all-round skin health and barrier support
• MelanoFade Fusion Serum to help target melasma, pigmentation, and uneven skin tone
✨ Then Face Crème Originale to lock in hydration and support a healthy skin barrier.
✨ Followed by my non-negotiable: 3D Defense SPF50 Mineral Sunscreen. Daily UV protection is one of the most important steps when managing melasma and preventing further pigmentation.
✨ And finally, my Melano-Correct Skin Pods — supporting skin health from the inside out.
Healthy skin doesn’t come from a complicated routine. It comes from choosing the right products and using them consistently. 🌿

Why does your skin suddenly become sensitive in winter? ❄️
The answer is often a compromised skin barrier.
Your skin barrier acts as a protective shield, keeping moisture in and irritants out. During winter, cold air, low humidity, indoor heating, and harsh skincare can weaken this barrier.
The result?
🔹 Redness and irritation
🔹Dryness and flaking
🔹Increased sensitivity
🔹Breakouts and congestion
🔹Rough, dull-looking skin
The good news is that barrier repair doesn’t need to be complicated.
✔️ Keep your skincare routine simple
✔️Avoid over-exfoliating
✔️ Use a gentle cleanser
✔️ Invest in a quality moisturiser or barrier repair cream containing ingredients like ceramides, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid
A healthy skin barrier is the foundation of healthy skin.

Granactive Retinoids deserve a permanent place in your skincare routine.
Unlike traditional retinol, Granactive Retinoids bind more directly to retinoid receptors in the skin, helping to deliver powerful results with less irritation.
Why dermatologists love them:
✨ Improve pigmentation and post-inflammatory marks
✨ Stimulate collagen production to soften fine lines and wrinkles
✨ Help regulate oil production and reduce breakouts
✨ Improve overall skin texture and smoothness
✨ Support the prevention of milia formation
✨ Help improve the appearance of sebaceous hyperplasia
✨ Promote healthier, more resilient skin over time
Retinoids remain one of the most researched and proven ingredients in skincare for both healthy ageing and skin correction. The key is consistency, patience, and finding a formulation your skin can tolerate long-term.
At root4, our NovA Oil combines advanced-strength Granactive Retinoids with bakuchiol and naturally occurring trans-retinoic acid from rosehip oil to deliver visible results while supporting the skin barrier.
Great skin isn’t built overnight. It’s built one evening routine at a time.
F is for Fucose ✨
One of skincare’s most fascinating multitaskers, Fucose-rich polysaccharides do far more than simply soothe the skin.
These naturally derived bioactive sugars help **calm irritation, strengthen the skin barrier, and support skin longevity by activating Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), often referred to as the skin’s “youth protein.” SIRT1 plays an important role in cellular repair, resilience, and healthy ageing, helping skin function at its best for longer.
When your skin barrier is compromised, it can lead to redness, dehydration, sensitivity, and inflammation. Fucose-rich polysaccharides help reinforce your skin’s natural defence system while supporting the biological pathways associated with healthier, more youthful-looking skin.
✔ Helps calm and soothe irritated skin
✔ Supports and strengthens the skin barrier
✔ Activates SIRT1, the skin’s “youth protein”
✔ Supports cellular resilience and healthy ageing
✔ Reduces feelings of sensitivity and discomfort
✔ Promotes healthier, more balanced skin
Healthy skin isn’t just about treating what’s visible today, it’s about supporting the skin’s ability to thrive for years to come.

Winter Skin: Why Your Skin Is Acting Up Right Now ❄️
As a dermatologist, one of the most common concerns I see during winter is skin that suddenly feels sensitive, dry, irritated, or prone to breakouts.
Many people assume their skin is simply “dry,” but often the real issue is a compromised skin barrier.
Your skin barrier is your body’s first line of defence. It helps keep moisture in and irritants out. When colder temperatures, wind, low humidity, and indoor heating disrupt this barrier, your skin can become reactive and unpredictable.
Here’s what commonly happens during winter:
🔹Barrier Stress
The skin’s protective layer becomes weakened, leading to redness, sensitivity, burning, and irritation.
🔹Sensitive Skin Flare-Ups
Conditions like eczema, rosacea, and general skin sensitivity often worsen during colder months.
🔹Increased Oil Production
Dehydrated skin may try to compensate by producing more oil, which can result in congestion and unexpected breakouts.
🔹 Moisture Loss
Water evaporates from the skin more easily in winter, leaving skin tight, flaky, dull, and uncomfortable.
✨The good news?
The solution is often simpler than many people think.
Instead of adding more active ingredients, focus on supporting and repairing your skin barrier :
✔️ Keep your skincare routine simple
✔️ Avoid over-exfoliating and harsh cleansers
✔️ Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser
✔️ Invest in a quality moisturiser or barrier repair cream containing ingredients such as ceramides, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, cholesterol, fatty acids, or squalane
✔️ Apply moisturiser while skin is still slightly damp
✔️ Wear SPF daily, even in winter
Healthy skin starts with a healthy barrier. When your barrier is functioning well, your skin is better able to retain moisture, tolerate active ingredients, and protect itself from environmental stressors.
My evening skincare routine ✨
At night, your skin enters repair mode, which is why your evening routine is all about cleansing properly, treating intentionally, and supporting your barrier.
Start with a double cleanse to remove SPF, makeup, oil, dirt, bacteria and daily build-up from the skin. This helps keep pores clean and allows your active ingredients to work more effectively.
Then, apply your products from the lightest formulation to the heaviest formulation, think water-based serums first, followed by oils or richer creams.
Evenings are also the ideal time for retinoids, as they help support collagen production, improve skin texture, target pigmentation and encourage healthy skin renewal.
And finally, always finish with barrier repair. A strong skin barrier means calmer, more resilient, better-functioning skin.
