They Were Both Dying... Today Theyโre Both Alive.
When Coffee and Roxy arrived at our hospital, they werenโt just sick...they were fighting for their lives.
After accidentally eating snail bait, one of the deadliest poisons a dog can ingest, they began suffering from violent seizures.
With every passing minute, their chances of survival became slimmer.
Their devastated family could do nothing, but hope while our veterinary team worked tirelessly to save them.
The first 24 hours were incredibly difficult.
There were moments when we thought we were going to lose them, but our team refused to give up.
Through intensive care, constant monitoring, lifesaving medication, and unwavering determination, our veterinarians, nurses, and animal care staff fought for Coffee and Roxy every single step of the way.
Then, little by little...
๐ The seizures stopped.
๐ They became stronger.
๐ Hope returned.
Today, against all odds, both Coffee and Roxy are alive, recovering, and back where they belong...with their family who love them.
Their journey is also an important reminder to every pet owner.
โ ๏ธ Snail bait is extremely toxic and can be fatal within hours. Even a small amount can cause severe seizures, dangerously high body temperatures, brain damage, and death if emergency treatment is delayed.
If you suspect your dog has eaten snail bait, donโt wait for symptoms to get worse.
Seek veterinary care immediately.
Every minute counts.
To Coffee and Roxyโs family, thank you for acting so quickly and trusting us during one of the most frightening moments imaginable.
And to our incredible hospital team...thank you for never giving up. Your compassion, dedication, and determination gave these two beautiful dogs the second chance they deserved.
Because every life is worth fighting for. ๐
What started as an ordinary day quickly turned into every pet ownerโs worst nightmare.
Charlie and his family had enjoyed their usual walk together and returned home with no signs that anything was wrong. But later that evening, everything changed.
Charlie suddenly became weak, stopped eating, could no longer stand, and seemed completely disoriented.
Panic set in as his devastated family watched their beloved companion deteriorate before their eyes.
Knowing something was seriously wrong, they rushed Charlie to a 24-hour animal hospital where he was stabilised before being referred to our hospital for urgent care.
Upon arrival, our veterinary team immediately began running diagnostic tests and started aggressive treatment for suspected poisoning.
Charlieโs condition was critical. He was lethargic, unable to walk, refusing food, and had lost his sight completely.
For days, Charlie remained in our high-care unit where he received around-the-clock monitoring, supportive treatment, assisted feeding, and plenty of love from our dedicated team.
The road to recovery was not easy, but Charlie had other plans.
Day by day, he began showing small signs of improvement.
His strength slowly returned, he started walking again, and his bright personality began shining through.
Every milestone brought hope to both his family and our team.
Today, Charlie is back where he belongs...at home with the family who acted quickly and never gave up on him.
While his eyesight has not fully returned, Charlie continues to amaze everyone around him.
He confidently finds his way around, enjoys life to the fullest, attends daycare to spend time with his furry friends, and continues to grow stronger with each passing day.
Charlieโs story is a powerful reminder that acting quickly in an emergency can make all the difference. Because his family trusted their instincts and sought help immediately, Charlie was given the chance to keep living the happy life he deserves.
We are incredibly proud of this brave boy and grateful to have been part of his journey. ๐

Imagine being loved one dayโฆ and the next day, youโre no longer wanted.
Thatโs what happened to sweet Harper.
Harper came to our hospital after being hit by a car while wandering outside her property. Her hind leg was badly injured and required orthopaedic surgery. Sadly, we learned that her owner no longer wanted her because she โwanted too much attention,โ leaving her to roam the streets to entertain herself.
It was heartbreaking to hear.
But it also gave Harper a chance at a new beginning.
Our team was deeply upset for her, but also grateful that she is now safe with us, where she will never be ignored again. Harper deserves a home where her loving, affectionate nature is celebrated, not rejected.
She is wonderful with other dogs and adores every person she meets. All she wants is a family who will love her, keep her safe, and give her the companionship sheโs been craving.
If you would love to adopt Harper and give her the forever home she deserves, please contact Shannon:

Little Bella, a sweet senior girl, was accidentally caught in a dog fight and came terrifyingly close to losing her life.
Her owners rushed her to us in panic, not knowing what the outcome would be.
We assured them that we would do everything we could and our team immediately got to work.
Bella was stabilised and taken straight to theatre for full blood work and emergency surgery.
She spent several days in ICU receiving intensive nursing care, before moving to our ward for continued monitoring.
Thanks to her incredible strength and the dedication of our veterinary and nursing team, Bella kept fighting.
After days of recovery and daily checks, she was finally able to go home.
Today, Bella is back with her family and well on her way to making a full recovery.
Another life saved and another reminder of why we do what we do.

Earlier today, our Inspectorate Department received an urgent call about dogs trapped in a deep open drain near a canal just behind Vanguard Mall in Athlone.
An area surrounded by thick, overgrown grass where anyone, human or animal, could easily fall in and become trapped.
Thanks to the quick thinking of nearby residents who heard the desperate cries for help, our team was alerted just in time.
Within minutes, our Inspectorate and Hospital team were on the scene, carefully navigating the risky terrain to reach the frightened dogs.
After a tense few moments, all three dogs were safely rescued and brought back to our hospital for immediate medical assessment.
They were cold, shaken, and hungry, but thankfully safe and now receiving the care and comfort they desperately needed.
Sadly, no one in the surrounding community seems to know who these dogs belong to.
We are so grateful to the community members who didnโt turn a blind eye.
We have done our best to reach out to the City of Cape Town to assist with covering up of this dangerous area. ๐๐ป
