I know.
In a time when most things are accessible at the click of button, it’s temping and easy to fall into the comfortability of ordering online, running to a chain, or relying on big brands.
But when it comes down to it, there is a reason why small businesses exist.
They exist because your local community members are trying to make your town a better place. They exist because generations of a local family have a great thing they want to share it. They exist because there’s a talent that can’t be replicated with a machine or copy and pasted with an AI.
When you choose to support local/small businesses, you choose to put food on a community member’s table, you choose to invest in high quality, you choose to keep someone’s lights on for another year to continue doing what they and their costumers love to do/consume.
I see so many times people saying they wish that our town had this or that. The reality, as I know from my experience in being a small business/ independent contractor is that it’s nearly impossible for a lot of unique businesses to thrive in a community that won’t fully support them. The expenses are immense when it comes to opening and running a business. Without the proper flow of support from the community, it’s impossible to keep up with the fees and overhead. So many amazing businesses have closed after a short period of time because we outsource instead of looking locally first. I hear the negativity that follows, that “that business was never going to make it here”, but why shouldn’t it?
It’s up to all of us to support what we want to see staying in business!
These are just a few small things you can do to make a big impact and encourage more growth of our community and what it has to offer.
And to all of those who fit me and my services into their budget, take the time to share my work, say a kind word about it to a friend, I see you and I appreciate you more than you know! Things like that keep me going and loving this career and what I get to do!
