A lot of times I get asked: “Can I reach out in between my sessions if I pull a muscle or have some pain?”

Of course!!

There are times I get a cancellation and have yet to reach out to other clients to fill it, so you can have first dibs!

Never ever stay in pain if your next session is far out! Let’s try to fix the problem before it becomes an issue.

Another question I get asked: “I don’t want to cancel, am I able to reach out to see if you can move my appointment up or down?”

Yep! If you want to avoid canceling or being charged for a missed appointment (if you are not within the cancellation window) you can absolutely see if I can move your appointment up or down in the day.

However, if you need to shorten your session, 90 ➡️ 60, and 48 hours is not given you will be charged for the 90min session. A reschedule is the same as a cancellation, so please keep that in mind.

As always if you have any questions please always ask! Don’t be shy!

Did you know what it looks like when your brain learns something new?

Now you do!

When your brain learns something new, it’s actually changing itself. This process is called neuroplasticity. It’s the brain’s ability to create, strengthen, and reorganize connections between nerve cells.

Here’s a simple way to think about it:

1. You experience something new. You hear, see, feel, practice, or learn something you didn’t know before. Your brain’s neurons become active.

2. Neurons communicate. Brain cells send signals to each other through tiny connection points called synapses. When you learn something, certain connections become stronger.

3. Repetition strengthens the pathway. The more you practice or revisit something, the more efficiently your brain can access it. This is why something can feel difficult at first but eventually become almost automatic.

4. Your brain stores the information. Learning involves several brain areas. The hippocampus is especially important for forming new memories, while other areas help store skills and habits.

5. Sleep helps “lock it in.” During sleep, your brain processes and organizes information from the day. This is one reason getting enough sleep can help you remember what you learned.

Isn’t this truly beautiful to see your brain pathways in action? I always try to teach my clients new ways to deal with anxiety, trauma, grief or anything related to what I do on a somatic level.

I love what I do!

For the months of October, November, & December you can be on my cancellation list with no future booked appointments!

That’s right! Typically to be on my cancellation list a client must have at least one booked appointment in the future to be on my list, well not for the rest of the year!

I am waiving that requirement! We still have to do the quick new client intake call just to make sure there are no contraindications or doctor notes needed.

Interested on being on my cancellation list? Just reach out!

What is Oncology Massage?

Oncology massage is a specialized type of massage for people living with cancer, undergoing treatment, or recovering from treatment. The goal is not to treat or cure cancer, but to provide comfort, relaxation, and support for the body during a physically and emotionally difficult time.

Why receive an oncology massage?

Cancer and its treatments can contribute to muscle tension, stiffness, fatigue, anxiety, stress, and general discomfort. Massage can provide a quiet space to slow down, relax, and reconnect with your body. Depending on your individual situation, it may help promote relaxation, ease muscle tension, reduce stress, and support an overall sense of well-being.

What type of pressure is used?

Oncology massage is generally gentler than a traditional therapeutic. I may use light to moderate pressure, slow movements, gentle compressions, and soothing techniques. Deep pressure and aggressive techniques are usually avoided because your body may be more sensitive or vulnerable during treatment & causing stress on the body is not good while having cancer.

Your pressure and techniques are always customized to your cancer history, treatments, surgeries, medications, skin condition, medical devices, and how you’re feeling that day.

What areas can be massaged?

Every session is different. Certain areas may need to be avoided, such as recent surgical sites, areas receiving radiation, compromised skin, or areas affected by medical complications. Your positioning can also be modified with pillows, bolsters, or a semi-reclined position to keep you comfortable.

Before your massage, we’ll discuss your health history and current treatment so I can create the safest and most comfortable session possible.

Most importantly, you are in control. It’s about meeting your body where it is that day and creating a safe, comfortable space for you to relax.

Let’s get you booked today!

Why We Hold Stress in Our Bodies…

Have you ever noticed that when you’re stressed, your shoulders get tight, your jaw starts clenching, or your neck feels like it’s carrying the weight of the world? Stress doesn’t just affect our minds, it can show up physically throughout the body.

When we experience stress, our nervous system goes into a more alert state. Our muscles may naturally tighten as part of the body’s response to perceived danger. When stress continues for a long period of time, that tension can become something we barely notice because our body starts to treat it as “normal.”

This is why you may find yourself constantly shrugging your shoulders, clenching your jaw, holding your breath, or feeling tight through your neck, back, and hips. Sometimes the body is holding onto tension even after the stressful situation has passed.

For me, massage therapy is about more than just working on tight muscles. When I work with clients who are experiencing trauma, grief, or difficult life changes, I want the massage to be a safe and comfortable space where they can simply be. I believe there is a lot of value in slowing down, listening to the body, and allowing someone to receive care without feeling like they have to explain or fix everything. Let’s just talk or be silent during your session!

Trauma and grief can affect everyone differently, and sometimes the body carries what we don’t have the words to express. My goal isn’t to “fix” someone’s trauma or grief through massage. It’s to provide a calm, supportive environment where the body can experience relaxation, gentle care, and a moment to breathe.

Sometimes healing isn’t about making everything better. Sometimes it’s simply giving yourself permission to rest, be supported, and take care of the body that has been carrying you through it all.

Ever hear of survivors guilt?

Survivors guilt typically shows up in people who have been exposed to, or witnessed, death and have stayed alive, leading to emotional distress and negative feelings. Often survivors feel responsible for the death or injury of others, even when they had no real power or influence in the situation. It can show up as thoughts like:

~ “Why them and not me?”
~ “I should have done more”
~ “I don’t have the right to be okay when they’re gone”

It isn’t always logical. You can know in your mind that something wasn’t your fault while still carrying an overwhelming sense of responsibility in your body and emotions. Survivor’s guilt can bring sadness, anger, anxiety, numbness, intrusive thoughts, difficulty enjoying things, or even guilt when you experience moments of happiness. At my massage practice I help with all those feelings that can manifest into physical symptoms.

Survivor’s guilt comes from believing that continuing to live, heal, laugh, work, or move forward means you are leaving someone behind.

Healing is not betrayal.

Being able to experience happiness again doesn’t mean you loved or cared about someone any less. You don’t have to suffer forever to prove that what happened mattered.

A big part of working through survivor’s guilt is learning to separate what you were responsible for from what was outside your control. Therapy, talking openly with someone you trust, journaling, creating rituals of remembrance, and allowing yourself to grieve without judging your emotions, self care, can all help.

Sometimes the hardest part is simply accepting: “I survived, and I’m allowed to keep living.”

If you want to start healing on a somatic level let’s talk!
