Ride the wave šŸ„ā€ā™€ļøšŸŒŠ honestly that may be the best curl advice I could give someone new to embracing their natural texture.

The thing about curls is they are attuned to their environment. They will behave differently based on the elements they’re being influenced by. Humidity, dry air, UV rays, mineral rich water, chlorinated water, tension, mechanical manipulation, the list goes on…

What can you do?

Pay attention.

Listen to what your hair is telling you or simply accept and embrace. You have to be adaptable and accepting when on your curl journey.

If you’re new to the journey I can help.

I know it seems self explanatory but…These things matter, let’s break it down.

1. If the thing you like about the inspo pic is HOW it is styled then you will most likely have to put some effort in to achieve the look. Most haircuts won’t magically look like that, there was effort involved. Also keep in mind (especially with bangs!) it is a perfectly still representation of a style. It most likely will look different out in the world with elements like wind, sweat, and movement involved.

So consider that, are you willing to style your hair to achieve this look?

2. Most (not all but most) of the time product plays a big role in how the hair is styled and how hair looks. Product can provide control, texture, hold, & volume to support a style. And most likely if it’s a hair inspo pic coming from a stylist’s page they def used a little something something.

So consider that, are you willing to invest in product usage?

3. A fresh and intentional haircut of course is gonna look good. So the question here is are you willing to maintain it? If you’re used to one cut every 6 months but are drawn to something that requires a refresh at 8-12 weeks is that something you’re willing to invest in?

4. Natural texture, hair density, and curl pattern are the most important elements to consider when looking for practical inspiration. Not all looks can be supported by all textures and densities. Find a look with hair that is similar to your own. Think of your hair as a fabric- not all fabric lays the same-silk and denim will lay very differently.

Hope this helps 😘

Let’s talk about the actual REALITY of most clients who sit in my chair.

A lot of the time my first date with my clients are a lot of just trying to find balance in hair that has been neglected or mistreated.

There is never any judgement whether it’s snipping your hair yourself or resulting to slick backs for the sake of control and simplicity.

First dates mean making a plan to get you your dream hair.

I work to figure out how we can bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. Things like figuring out what behaviors and products are helping or hurting your progress can be game changing.

You don’t know what you don’t know-that’s why you seek out professional help šŸ˜‰

Her curls do look amazing but we have bits of chemical and mechanical damage that are holding us back. With routine cuts to reshape and better at home care we can slowly make progress to have everything healthy and cohesive.

THIS is the s**t money can’t buy 🄹

My heart has been so full since I arrived back on the East Coast in May. 🄰

Connecting with loved ones and building memories is worth so much more than endless sunny days in California.

And YES, I also miss my California clients so damn much!! 🫶
