As a solo esthetician, I spend so much of my time focused on taking care of everyone else’s skin that, admittedly, my own skincare sometimes gets pushed to the bottom of the list. (I know, I know… the esthetician should know better. 😂)

So today I decided it was the perfect time to slow down, take care of my skin, and show myself a little of the same love and attention I give my clients every day. 🤍

And apparently once I started, I decided to do all the things.

I started with a double cleanse, followed by dermaplaning, Luminous Infusion (nanoneedling) with a retinol peel, and extractions. While I was at it, I gave my brows a little refresh with a brow wax + tint.

Next came hyaluronic acid serum with a Light Energy Mask, some time under red LED light, followed by oxygen infusion and facial cupping. And because we can’t forget the lips, I added a lip exfoliation + hydrating lip mask, then finished everything off with toner, eye serum, moisturizer, and finishing products.

No filter. No skin smoothing. Just my real, 47-year-old skin before and after a little much-needed TLC.

And one of my favorite things about these pictures? My skin doesn’t look different — it looks happy. Hydrated, luminous, refreshed and a little less puffy. My lines and freckles are still there, because they’re supposed to be. This is real skin.

Skincare isn’t about trying to erase every line, pore or sign of aging. It’s about supporting the skin you’re in and helping it look and feel its healthiest.

Apparently today’s reminder was one I needed myself:

A little skincare, a little soul care… and today, the esthetician needed both.

As always, your skin barrier comes first. If receiving both dermaplaning and the lactic acid peel isn’t appropriate for your skin, I’ll customize the exfoliation to give your skin exactly what it needs.

Hello my friends,

As September comes to a close, so does the month I chose to celebrate five years of Opal Esthetics.

I’ve spent a lot of time this month thinking about what these five years have meant to me. When I opened Opal, I knew I wanted to create something that felt different—a place where skin care could meet soul care, where you could come in for a facial but also have a place to exhale, be cared for, and simply be yourself.

What I could never have known then was just how much all of you would give back to me.

For those of you who weren’t able to come in during September, I wanted to share the poem that I included with this year’s anniversary gifts. It says, better than I probably ever could in a regular email, what Opal—and all of you—have come to mean to me.

What We Built Together

Some of you came searching
for healthier skin.
Some of you came looking
for a moment to rest.
But somewhere along the way,
we became so much more than appointments
written on a calendar.

Within these walls,
we’ve celebrated weddings,
new babies,
new homes,
new beginnings.

We’ve sat quietly through heartbreak,
loss,
uncertainty,
and days when finding the strength
to smile felt impossible.

You’ve trusted me with your skin,
but more importantly,
you trusted me with your stories.

You let me witness pieces of your lives—
the joyful chapters,
the painful ones,
and all the pages in between.

That is a privilege
I have never taken for granted.

Five years ago,
I dreamed of creating a space
where skincare met soul care.

I thought I was building a place
where I could help others heal.

What I never expected
was that while I cared for your skin,
you would quietly help heal
pieces of my heart, too.

You have taught me
that kindness still exists,
that genuine connection still matters,
and that healing often begins
with simply feeling seen.

Thank you
for every conversation,
every hug,
every laugh,
every tear,
every referral,
every kind word,
and every time
you chose to walk back through my door.

You have helped build more than a business.
Together,
we’ve built a community.

And for that,
I will always be grateful.
