How Often Should You Get a Trim?

Regular trims help remove split, dry ends before they travel farther up the hair shaft.
How often you need one depends on your haircut, hair health, and goals:

• Short cuts, bobs, and bangs: Every 4–6 weeks to maintain the shape.
• Medium to long hair: Every 8–12 weeks.
• Color-treated or heat-damaged hair: Every 6–8 weeks.
• Curly or textured hair: About every 8–12 weeks, depending on the condition and shape.
• Growing your hair out: Every 10–12 weeks—a small “dusting” can protect your length while removing damaged ends.

If your ends feel rough, tangle easily, look thin or split, or no longer hold their style, it may be time for a trim.
