Underdog Performance Therapy
My name is Heather Herring, owner of UD-P Therapy. I first got involved in horses back in 2019 when I met a little cart horse morgan and began barrel racing.
UD-P Therapy
certified BWFA apprentice 1 farrier
certified muscular rehab therapist
working on myofascial and craniosacral certification
offering trimming and shoeing, massage, and red light across a number of breeds and equines I became dedicating to educating and training for the next few years purchasing rescues and even doing some resales. That is, until meeting my main horse. He wasn't just a typical retraining and building calories, he had a severe muscle issue making him unrideable which stemmed from a dental problem. That is how I got introduced to massage therapy, and decided to learn how to do it myself to best help him. My business started from listening to my horse, and now I dedicate my career to listening to every horse. I have continued my education the best I can, dedicating myself to other certifications including my BWFA farrier certification. It is my number 1 priority to improve your horses health, so please PM to schedule.

"Don't watch the mouth, watch the hands," - Peter B. Parker
We have limited bookings left, and I would love to work with you to help your horse feel their best!
I take pride in not only working with your horse to help them feel their best, using feel and visual ques, but I value education. Not only for continuing my own theough clinics, certifications, lecture videos, and as many books as I can afford but for helping my clients be educated.
Do I have clients that would prefer I not ramble? Of course, and I try to tailor to those clients. But I love clients that ask questions and get involved, not only so I can ramble on about neat facts but so we can improve your horses performance and quality of life by giving you the information you need to continue to help your horse.
I am a certified BWFA apprentice 1 farrier able to do steel shoes and barefoot trims (I have limited experience with glue ons, and in the process of ordering more to continue practice on one of my personal horses before I offer this publically). I went to school in Hillsdale at the Michigan Horse Shoeing Inst.
As well as a certified muscular rehab therapist through Superior Therapy, qualifying me for massage therapy. I am also about half way through my myofascial and craniosacral certification course through Lyon's inst and estimate to be done by end of November at the latest.
I have worked on more than a dozen rehabs be it starvation cases in my personal care, or clients with curled feet or muscular trauma and tension - much of which the owner didnt even know about. As well as a handful of founder, navicular, etc though I require radiographs and vet notes before any corrective work. I encourage us all to work as a team between vet, farrier, bodyworker, etc to give your horse the best chance. I have also trained my own performance horses, majority being rescues and rehabs, and have shown successfully in lower level western and English rail classes as well as higher levels in the barrel racing placing at congress level and qualifying for short goes at both state and national level with over 8,500$ in career earnings and 9 buckles.
I have seen first hand client horses come to me lame, and leave the appointment sound. Come into the appointment unrideable and dangerous, and leave able to be ridden lightly and go into performance careers with consistent and correct training. Horses with biting habits and unruly behavior, relax and enjoy a good pet. It is never a garuntee that I can fix a horse, but I have seen time and time again how proper, balanced farrier work and careful and thorough bodywork can transform a horses performance career or quality of life. It may not be in the first appointment, but consistency is key.
My work can benefit both your performance horses, and your senior pasture pets with reasonable rates in SE MI and surrounding. Reach out to see if I come to your area!
Thank you for your consideration, and thank you to all my current clients that continue to support me!

55 corrective excersises for horses
Jec Aristotle Ballou

This is one I had been slowly working through this year, and a book I reccomend to all my clients invested in their horses health care! This book is filled with - well, 55 corrective excersises. This is great for rehabbing injuries, fixing postural or movement habits, or increasing your horses performance and endurance. From cavellettis to ground poles, ground work to riding excersises, hills to balance pads, and even some basic massage techniques or rail excersises, this book is filled with helpful drills to help your horse feel and move their best with years of research and education to back it

This is why I dont practice barrels every single ride! And this is why running barrels repetitively can seriously damage your horse in so many ways! Same for any discipline!

Exploring the equine hoof handbook

Mackinaw Dells 2 Whole Horse Hoof Care

This book was addicting, I highly reccomend this to all owners and professionals alike. It was easy to understand, and playful in a lot of it's wording to make it easy for the average owner to keep up!
It delves a lot into advanced anatomy, biomechanics, history, and deformities you may find as well as a modern way of how many go about solving these problems using new research that favors composite and glue shoes over standard steel which is always intriguing to hear about as someone whose always done steel shoes. Theirs also a quiz and a number of activities at the end to review what you have read.
