We have a weird relationship with the word haircut.

Somewhere along the way, cutting our hair became synonymous with losing our hair.

But look at this.

Look at what I actually cut off. It’s basically fuzz. And then look at the curl once I cleaned up the ends and regrouped it.

THIS is what we’re so afraid to lose?

Your hair grows from your scalp, not from the bottom. And there’s a big difference between growing hair and retaining healthy length.
Sometimes keeping every last little piece isn’t preserving your length the way you think it is.
Maybe the haircut was never the enemy. ✂️

This is why I don’t put much emphasis on curl typing. It’s a useful language, but it’s not a complete assessment of your hair.

Your texture is influenced by genetics, the condition of the fiber, your environment and the way you care for it. And yes, multiple curl patterns can exist on the same head.

I turn the curls I cut into artwork because I want you to SEE what I’m talking about, not just take my word for it.

Your hair doesn’t need to fit into a category to make sense.

Now think about your hair.
Layer after layer of styling products. Your water. Minerals. Oils. Sweat. Environmental exposure. Then we add more product on top and wonder why suddenly the curls feel dry, look dull, stop responding the way they used to, or the product you swear used to work suddenly doesn’t.

The detox and buildup-removal portion of your appointment is part of the experience because I want to understand the hair underneath all of it. I want to see how your hair behaves once we’ve removed what may be interfering with it—before I start telling you what your hair needs.

Because sometimes you don’t need more moisture.

Sometimes we just need to get the s**t off your hair. 😂

Then we can actually see what we’re working with.

Your appointment is private. One-on-one. My tools are reset, my chair is cleaned, my shampoo area is scrubbed, and apparently even my drain is getting more attention than some people’s relationships. 😂

But underneath the humor, I take this seriously.

I work closely with your hair, your scalp and your body for the next 90 minutes or more. The cleanliness of my environment is just as much a part of your experience as the consultation, the haircut, the education and the finished result.

Your hair isn’t the problem. But you might be getting your information from the wrong places.

A curly hair Facebook group can give you ideas. A product bottle can tell you it was “made for your curl type.” But neither can assess the actual character traits of the hair sitting on your head.

Your curl pattern is only one piece of information.

What I’m looking at behind the chair goes much deeper:

🔬 Condition — how the hair takes in, holds and loses water
🧪 Water quality + buildup — what your hair is being exposed to every time you wash
🌡️ Environment — humidity, heat, UV exposure and seasonal changes
🧬 Genetics, hormones + age — because your hair can change as your body changes
⚗️ Product chemistry + application — what you’re using, how much, and how it interacts with everything above

That’s why two people with the exact same “curl type” can need completely different routines.
