Dehydrated who? ✨

Dehydration is something I see often, and constantly have to have a conversation about with my clients.

Our skin consists of both oil and water. Dehydration is a lack of water in the skin due to many different factors, and is something everyone is susceptible to. You can be dry and dehydrated, as well as you can be oily and dehydrated.

A very common habit people have when they start to notice their skin feels too greasy or looks too shiny, is they stop using hydrating products because they think it’s contributing to the problem. What’s actually happening is when your skin gets too dehydrated, it will start over producing oil to compensate. Another good indicator of this is if you’re also noticing your skin is flaking in certain spots, or you notice an increase of clogged pores like blackheads.

So the solution is not to eliminate hydrating products. It’s to do things like consistently moisturize day and night, use hyaluronic acid products, protect your skin against UV damage, get facial treatments, etc.

This is before & immediately after a KCE Signature Facial. We didn’t do anything crazy, just really focused on hydration and this was the result. Sometimes the simplest things can make the biggest difference.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

I see people who’ve been affected by skin cancer in the treatment room all too frequently. One of the number one things I hear from older generations is, “I wish I had just worn the sunscreen”. When people ask my advice on what they should be doing for their skin, or even their children’s skin, my answer for literally everyone is always, “make sure you wear sunscreen”. It really is that important.

Here’s some wild facts about skin cancer

•In the US, more than 9,500 people are diagnosed with skin cancer every day, and 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70.
•More people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the US than all other cancers combined.
•An estimated 8,510 people will die of melanoma in 2026.
•Regular use of an SPF of 15 or higher sunscreen reduces the risk of developing melanoma by 50 percent.
