Color correction at its best! Up against Splat Purple Fashion color, natural root grown out and previous dark brown hair color grown out! I enjoyed having this beautiful woman in my chair for 3.5 hours and multiple processes! I must say the test strand of hair was key ποΈ to booking our session weeks beforehand!

The truth about being a Hairstylist as the Internet takes over to fill our industry with unrealistic goals. Hairstylists need more positivity within our community. People that found this career isn't for them doesn't mean it's not for you. Working for a career you want means going against the odds to get there.
We provide services for all types of people and not every person is meant to stay in our chairs. That's ok. Let it go. Let that client be where they need to sit. Making everyone happy is always a goal; but it's okay if you couldn't. Learn and grow.
Trends change, products evolve and there's always something to get educated on. It's okay if you can't be a jack of all trades. Honestly it'll make you a Master of none. Before saying you can't do something; make sure it's not coming from ego or needing to practice to make perfect.
The cost of providing services can't always stay the same. As with everything else in the world; our products have taken price hikes too. We invest in education to grow our skills. Hairstylists deserve promotions just as much as you do in a corporate career. It's okay to charge accordingly. Your friends would be paying someone else without bargaining!
So don't let them do that to you. Providing discounts to please others isn't realistic. Competing with those who choose to do kitchen hair or sell themselves short elsewhere to people please isn't your business. It'll burn you out.
AI....Ohhh the AI world. That inspo pic is truly that. Inspirational and an example of what a person would want. Our job is to explain with integrity why that look may or may not work for your hair. It's unrealistic to have certain chemical services if you want to actually keep your hair on your head. Going from black to blonde. Red to blonde. Or being a platinum blonde with fashion colors has so many factors in how that can happen. It might not happen for you! Saying no to something isn't because we can't; it's because your hair can't handle the processes.
Last but not least. Building this career means a lot of adjustments. Personally and Professionally. We are not rich starting out. Some of us may have to work another job until our clientle is consistent. None of us were handed a clientele; we had to work for it. It doesn't mean that ever was easy either. Being a full time Hairstylist doesn't come with paid lunch breaks, FMLA, vacation pay or 401k. We actually have to incorporate those things on our own. Hence why NOT wheeling and dealing prices is essential. We work hard and deserve to make a living too.
Hairstylists are people with heart. Putting service above self, taking in a lot of other energies, we make many sacrifices while working through self doubt. Customizing chemicals isn't easy. Taking in many personalities and criticism can feel heavy. We are smart. We are worth it. To all my upcoming Cosmetologists; find fellow Stylists that build up and not tear down. Your career will soar as long as you stay accountable, have good intentions and accept that you will never know it all; But knowing a lot means changing. You must keep up education and stay away from people that don't fill your cup of positivity.
My being a Mentor doesn't mean I'm without flaws or corrections. It means I love our career so much that I wanna see more of us winning!
