This one was a PROJECT- a 5 hour project to be exact! 🤯 here’s where we started and why corrective color is no joke!

She had old highlights covered by brown permanent color, a bleached hairline (with some faded pink on the underside) and a couple inches of her natural root.

Here was the process:
- undo goo shampoo, CPR, And color disruptor to get out as much color as possible without bleaching

- lifted out the old color avoiding the hairline and checking frequently to avoid breakage where the old highlights were

- bumped her base at the back bowl to slightly lift her roots

- 3 formulas for the final color. One for her root, 2 for mids and ends to give the copper and strawberry dimension

This was her first time EVER having anything other than a gloss! Who thinks she’ll be addicted to the blonde??

For color she got a deep root melt to get rid of the brass, and a full tip out to get her ends as light as possible with minimal damage.

My client had some old extensions that needed to go! We added two rows of 18” extensions to do the heavy lifting in keeping her feeling BLONDE.

But actually I love the freedom. The most important thing in these situations is knowing their desired maintenance and budget. Yea, it would be fun to do a full bleach out, but then they’re locked into 4 weeks appointments that are pricier.

My clients tend to be dimensional brunettes/reds who see me 2-4x a year for color. Do you think that maintenance it too much? Too little?

When she came to me she wasn’t as blonde as she wanted, had so much breakage and never wanted a trim…

We’ve come such a long way and here are a few ways we did that.

1. I used a very low volume developer so it was the most gentle lifting process possible.

2. Dry cut her ends so she could see and control exactly how much I trimmed each time.

3. When she absolutely didn’t want a cut I used the split end mender to help her hair appear healthier and keep it from future damage/breakage.

4. Had her start using good products that have protein, moisture and heat protection in them.

There are ways to get what you want but it’s a compromise sometimes.

My go-to way to get hair healthy is a big chop or stop highlighting but I understand the desire for long blonde hair. So she still has some breakage towards her ends. Considering we kept her length and continued doing highlights she has made great progress in a year!
