As many of you know, my family has been here since basically the dawn of time—around 1841, before Tampa was even incorporated. My roots here run deep.

I love thinking back on history and imagine my family members right there in the thick of so much progress. I imagine they would have read Eleanor Chamberlain’s articles in the paper. We were always a progressive family, full of strong, very independent women. I mean, my great-grandmother’s nickname was Frankie because she spoke so frankly. A trait I happily inherited 😂

Eleanor McWilliams Chamberlain is recognized as Florida’s first suffragist, and she lived right here in Tampa. In the 1890s, she was a writer for the Tampa Tribune, where she advocated for women’s voting rights. She organized Florida’s first suffrage effort in 1893, which merged with other groups eventually joining the National American Woman Suffrage Association.

In 1920, women finally won the right to vote.

Eleanor passed away in 1934. Because of women like her, I am able to walk into my precinct and proudly cast my vote. Which, before I moved to Westchase, was the church my family helped build over 100 years ago.

I cry a little during election season for a lot of reasons, but mostly because I’m so grateful for women like Eleanor who never gave up the fight. She went to college, got her degree, married some rich old dude, used his money and her influence to change the nation🙌 Iconic. He was an ally though. He even attended the assassination's national convention in 1895 with her. So props to him for being a good husband.

Anyways, happy Tampa Day. I’m proud of this weird, beautiful city and the generations of people who helped shape it.

A little hydration, UV protection, and an occasional gloss will do more for your blonde than chasing the lightest shade ever could.

💜 Purple shampoo not doing its job? Here are three reasons why...

✨ Your hair isn't light enough.
Purple shampoo only neutralizes yellow tones on light blonde, silver, or gray hair. If your hair is darker or more golden, it may need a gloss or toner instead.

⏱️ You're rinsing it out too soon.
Purple shampoo isn't your everyday cleanser. Give it a few minutes to work (follow the directions on your bottle!) so the violet pigments have time to neutralize brassiness.

🫧 Buildup is getting in the way.
Hard water, styling products, and dry shampoo can coat the hair, making it harder for those purple pigments to do their job. A clarifying or chelating shampoo every so often can make a big difference.

💡 Purple shampoo is a maintenance product—not a miracle worker. If your blonde still isn't looking the way you want, it might be time for a gloss or toner at the salon.
