There’s something I keep noticing as I navigate the horse industry over 40 years...
Put ten horse people in a room and ask about training, and you’ll get ten different answers.
Some will say pressure and release is the foundation.
Some will say connection comes first.
Some will say discipline matters most.
Others will say the horse should always have a choice.
And here’s the uncomfortable truth…
They’re all speaking from what they’ve experienced, what they’ve been taught, and what they believe works.
But rarely do we stop and ask:
What does the horse experience?
Not what looks good.
Not what gets results the fastest.
Not what tradition tells us is “correct.”
What does it feel like… to be on the receiving end of it?
Because two methods can look similar on the outside and be completely different on the inside.
One can create compliance.
The other creates understanding.
One shuts the nervous system down.
The other allows it to regulate and soften.
And if we’re honest… the industry has rewarded the former for a long time.
That’s why opinions feel so divided right now.
We are in a shift. The timing could not be better.
Year of the Fire Horse.
A shift from control → to communication.
From obedience → to awareness.
From doing things to the horse → to working with the horse.
This doesn’t mean everything we’ve done is wrong.
It means we’re being asked to evolve.
To question.
To listen deeper.
To recognize that behavior is not defiance… it’s information.
The future of this industry isn’t going to belong to the loudest voices.
It’s going to belong to the ones willing to see the horse as sentient.
To understand that they feel, process, remember, and respond—just like we do.
And when you start working from that place…
You don’t just train horses.
You change them.
And if you’re paying attention…
They change you too.
** Just a note: I am not a trainer. I am an Equine Sports Massage Therapist who discovered her purpose to help create understanding between human and horse. **

Do you watch your horse?
I mean sit and watch them while they are with friends. Grazing and moving freely.
That observation time is part of why I do what I do. I see the patterns while they are not being interfered with.
No saddle or bridle.
Compensation begins that way but doesn’t always get seen that way.
It isn't always felt while working.

Horses don’t hold our history against us,
but they absolutely respond to the energy we carry.
A tense human creates a tense horse.
An anxious human creates an anxious horse.
A shut-down human creates a shut-down horse.
Not because the horse is copying us —
but because they are responding to the state of our nervous system.
When we avoid our own stress, anger, grief, or overwhelm,
the horse feels it and adjusts their behavior around it.
This isn’t judgment.
It’s resonance.
Horses are mirrors,
and sometimes what they reflect is exactly what we need to see in order to grow.
Honor that reflection.
It’s not criticism.
It’s guidance.

Helping Horses communicate through bodywork and nervous system awareness.
When it comes to massage, yes it improves circulation and increases range of motion. It also enhances muscle tone as well as releases natural pain relief; endorphins.
But, it also helps the bond.
The soft touch.
The listening.
The acknowledgement.
Actually slowing down to listen.
One day, run your hand all over your horse. Feel for anything. Feel for everything.
If you aren't sure what you feel, reach out. I will show you what your horse is showing you.
Have you considered your babies need bodywork as well? Rough housing and running around, you want them to remain balanced.
Two and three year old have a habit of getting into mischief as well.
Leg injuries create compensation as well as scar tissue.
Flipping over fencing can also damage soft tissue and create back pain.
Massage and BEMER are proven to improve back discomfort.
Biomechanics matter at every age!.
