Inside Skin Biology — Part 3 🔄🧬

Skin is built to renew.

But “cell turnover” is only part of the story.

📓 The Formulation Notebook: When Actives Don’t Play Nice

An active can look perfect on paper.

Then it enters the formula. 🧪

Suddenly the viscosity drops, the serum turns cloudy, the pH shifts, or a formula that looked stable on Day One starts behaving differently a week later.

That is because every new active enters an existing chemical environment—and it can change how the rest of the system behaves.

Before stacking actives, consider:

🧪 pH compatibility — Do the recommended ranges overlap?

💧 Solubility and phase placement — Is each ingredient where it belongs?

➕ Ionic interactions — Could charge or electrolyte content affect viscosity or stability?

🌡️ Processing requirements — Does anything need cool-down addition, pre-dispersion, or a specific order of addition?

🛡️ Preservation impact — Has the complete finished system been considered?

🔬 Finished-formula stability — What happens after Day One?

More actives do not automatically make a better formula.

The stronger system is often the one where each ingredient has a clear purpose, fits the formulation environment, and can work alongside the rest of the formula without creating unnecessary instability.
