There’s something special about opening a carton of farm-fresh eggs and seeing a rainbow! 💚🤎🤍💙

Our flock is open-forage raised and rooster kept, giving our hens plenty of opportunity to scratch, peck, dust bathe, hunt for bugs, enjoy fresh greens and simply be chickens. 🐓🌿

So why all the beautiful colors?

🥚 Shell color comes from genetics and breed. Different hens naturally lay different shades—from creamy whites and tans to rich browns, blues, greens and speckled beauties.

🌿 Open forage adds variety to their natural diet. Our chickens supplement their feed with grasses, seeds, plants and insects they find while exploring the land.

🐓 Rooster-kept flock. Our roosters live as part of the natural social structure of the flock, helping watch over the hens and maintain normal flock behaviors.

No two cartons look quite the same—and that’s part of the beauty of our farm-fresh rainbow eggs! 🌈🥚

🎣 What a morning at the Ranch!

Today’s Ikejime Bass Harvest Workshop gave our guests a hands-on introduction to healthy eco pond management and the role selective harvesting plays in maintaining a balanced fishery.

We learned how to use largemouth bass relative weight charts to evaluate fish condition, discussed how those measurements help guide responsible harvest decisions, and then put that knowledge into practice on the pond.

🌿 Sometimes, nature reminds us that it’s okay to pivot.

We normally reserve Sundays as our day of rest here at Roaring Lion Ranch. It’s an important part of living intentionally, slowing down, and appreciating the simple things.

This week, however, we’re making a small change.

Tomorrow we’ll be hosting our Ikejime Bass Fishing Workshop, so today is our day of rest instead. One of the greatest lessons that homesteading, farming, and life continue to teach us is that not everything goes exactly as planned—and that’s okay. Learning when to adapt without losing sight of your priorities is just as important as having a plan in the first place.

So today we’re slowing down, enjoying a fresh cup of coffee by the pond, taking in the peaceful morning, and preparing for tomorrow’s workshop. These quiet moments remind us why we work so hard to build this place and why taking time to recharge is just as important as staying productive.

Have a peaceful Saturday, and remember… sometimes the best plan is the one you’re willing to adjust. ☕🎣
