I took 5 photos of hair that I actually created and asked AI one simple thing:
“Make her hair look better.”
And listen… some of these hurt my feelings a little 😅 Because apparently AI has access to unlimited density, perfect ends, zero frizz, infinite shine and approximately 400% more hair than a real human being.
Which is especially wild when you work with extensions, because density is one of the biggest things we’re constantly trying to create realistically.
Extensions can absolutely add length, fullness and completely transform hair… but there are still limits based on the client’s natural density, scalp health, starting length, haircut, how much hair their head can safely support and how much maintenance they’re willing to commit to.
AI doesn’t have to think about any of that.
Real extension work doesn’t happen by magic. It takes proper placement, color matching, density matching, cutting, blending, styling and maintaining the integrity of the client’s natural hair.
And that’s exactly why I wanted to share this.
The photo on the right is real hair, my actual work. The photo on the left is AI.
Same client. Same photo. But suddenly the ends are fuller, the blend softer, the dimension “perfect,” and every wave falls exactly where it should.
As a stylist, I think AI is an amazing tool.
Cleaning up a background? Sure.
Fixing lighting? Absolutely.
Removing something distracting? Fine.
But when we start using AI to change the hair itself… making disconnects disappear, changing the color/shine/density or making the result more impressive than what was actually achieved, we’re no longer just editing the picture.
We’re editing the portfolio.
And that matters.
Because clients are asking other stylists to recreate hair that, in some cases, literally never existed. Clients deserve to see real work.
So absolutely, bring on the AI inspo. Tell me what you love. We’ll talk color/extension options/maintenance/investment/and what’s actually achievable for YOU.
But can we also normalize real hair again?
Real hair (& extensions) can still be really freaking pretty without AI fixing it. 💛
