Let’s head to the garden and see who made it through the freeze and who didn’t.
I really thought Pumpkins were more hardy.
Spoiler alert: no need to worry about the mint!

First frost of season means it’s BIG harvest time! We spent the day gathering everything that would not survive the freezing temperature, packing the dehydrators and hanging bundles of plants. We will pickle and freeze vegetables as well and I made basil vinegar.
This is always an exciting day and an exhausting one.
I’m always a little stressed about having enough herbs to get us through winter.

Today I’m drinking October Slide! It’s specifically designed to support those of us with chronic illness who have a hard time this time of year with seasonal flare ups!
Tulsi is an adaptogen and anti stress herb. So your body can relax and focus on healing.
Ginger is a digestive, and anti inflammatory support plant.

Time for a quick after dinner harvesting trip to the garden! I was super nervous that to pineapple sage would turn black and get ruined by last tonight’s lows being in the 30s.
Technically tonight is our first frost but I went ahead and brought the pineapple sage in early.
Better safe than sorry!

Do NOT chew the seeds of a Pokeberry! Pokeberry is a very powerful medicine that should be treated with respect and caution.
But should not be feared. I keep a jar of pokeberries in my freezer to use year round.

I’m thankful that I’m finally in a place (both physically and spiritually) where I feel safe working through my complicated feelings surrounding ancestor work.

I know it’s sometimes hard to admit when we struggle with things that so many other people seem to have figured out already, but we are all on our own journey and we are all here to support and encourage each other.

One thing I love about witchcraft is that we are always learning and growing and (hopefully) becoming better versions of ourselves through it. And I love that we do that in community with each other.

This amazing salve is made from organic and hand harvested plants I grew myself. It’s anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. It’s has natural pain relief in and it heals the skin from the inside out.
It has olive oil, sunflower oil, avocado oil and h**p oil (so no coconut. I was wrong).

What do you do to mark the first of the month or the beginning or Samhain season!?? Some months I do nothing because I prefer to work with the moon cycle. But some months the first feels more significant.
Personally I love October 1st
because it’s my favorite month
(yes I will be saying that about several months).
