Reduced blood supply can limit the resources available for healthy hair production. Studies have measured lower subcutaneous blood flow (sometimes ~2.6 times lower) and lower oxygen levels in areas of pattern baldness.

Prolonged mechanical tension from tight hairstyles, heavy extensions, braids, weaves, or tightly placed bonds can affect local circulation and follicle health .

The internet is divided on this topic, but I prefer to follow science and facts when it comes to how large, chunky, or tightly placed bonds can affect the hair.
Some people feel that lower bonds aren’t the most cost-effective option. Those of us who use this method believe a luxury service should prioritise the highest standard of care — protecting both the scalp and the hair, and installing the bonds correctly.
Excessive tension on the scalp can reduce blood flow. When circulation is compromised, the hair follicles can be affected over time. Choosing a method based only on short-term savings may lead to longer-term damage.
