💙✂️ Preparing Your Little One for a Haircut ✂️💙

Haircuts can be a brand-new sensory experience for little ones. The sounds, vibrations, cape, unfamiliar environment, and having someone work around their head and ears can take some getting used to.

A little preparation at home can help make the experience feel more familiar and comfortable. 💛

📺 Make haircuts familiar through a favorite show.
Watching characters get a haircut can help children know what to expect. Try:

• Caillou — “Rosie’s First Haircut”
• BabyBus — “Dobie Got a New Haircut”
• Chip and Potato — “Chip’s Haircut”
• Pupstruction — “Luna’s Bad Hair Day”
• Little Angel — “Baby’s First Haircut”
• Milo and Poppy — “Milo and Poppy Get a Haircut”
• Daniel Tiger — “Daniel’s First Haircut”

🪥 Practice gentle vibrations at home.
If your child will be getting a clipper cut, try gently holding a running electric toothbrush around their ears and along the back of their neck.

Kids can sometimes feel those vibrations travel down their back like a tickle! Some may laugh, while others may cry, tense up, or feel unsure simply because the sensation is new.

Keep it playful, brief, and within your child’s comfort level. The goal is simply to make the feeling more familiar before haircut day.

🌟 Use positive, encouraging language.
Children pick up on the emotions and expectations of the adults around them. Instead of “They hate haircuts” or “They probably won’t do well,” try:

“You’re going to do great!”
“You’re being so brave.”
“You can do this!”
“I’m so proud of you.”

Remember, success doesn’t mean zero tears. A child can cry, feel unsure, need reassurance, and still be incredibly brave. Every positive experience helps build confidence for the next visit. 💛

💈 One important tip: Avoid introducing the idea of sitting on a parent’s lap.

We want our littles to come in hearing that we believe in them and that they’re capable. Our goal is to encourage independence, celebrate progress, and create positive haircut experiences one visit at a time.

We have confidence in our kiddos and we know they can do it! 💙🐳

✂️💙 PARENT TIP: SOMETIMES A LITTLE SPACE HELPS 💙✂️

Every child experiences haircuts differently, and sometimes building comfort takes a little time, trust, and space.

Think about the first days of school. 🎒

A child may feel unsure when their parent steps away, but over time, they begin to realize:

💙 “My parent is still here for me.”
💙 “This is a safe person I can trust, too.”
💙 “I can do this!”

A haircut can sometimes involve that same kind of confidence-building.

For some children, seeing Mom, Dad, or their caregiver during an overwhelming moment naturally makes them reach for their safest person. We may suggest that you step back or briefly move out of your child’s direct sight.

This isn’t about separating a child from their parent or excluding you from the experience. It’s about giving your child an opportunity to connect with their stylist, build trust, and discover that they can feel safe and confident in a new situation—with you still there supporting them 🫶

That little bit of space may help your child:

✨ Build trust
✨ Develop confidence
✨ Settle into the experience

And just like with school, every child adjusts differently. What helps one child may not help another. We follow your child’s cues and work together with you to find the approach that best supports them.
