THE PLACES THAT BECAME HOME❤️

In 2011, Halcyon opened its doors at 206 S. Washington Street, a tiny space that is now home to Peace Avenue.

It was less than 10 feet wide and only about 40 feet long—including the bathroom! 😂 The space had originally been an alleyway between two buildings before being enclosed in 1937 to become the home of Harris Barbershop.

It was tiny, but it was ours. And it was where the dream of Halcyon began to take shape.

We quickly outgrew that little space, and in 2013, we moved just down the street to 214 S. Washington Street.

When the dream started taking shape, the building was home to feral cats and pigeons. It took a lot of vision—and a lot of work—to see what it could become.

But we did.

We transformed it into a beautiful home for Halcyon, preserving some of the building’s historic character along the way, including the gorgeous original metal ceiling tiles.

Then, in 2019, it was time for another chapter.

Renovations on 115 N. Lafayette Street began in February, and by April, we had moved into what would become our finished home.

Or so we thought. 😉

Because even after moving in, we’ve never really stopped changing, improving, and dreaming about what Halcyon could become.

Most recently, we completely reimagined our treatment spaces to make room for our growing eminenceorganics skincare services—and there’s still more to come.

Three spaces. Fifteen years. Countless memories.

Each building gave us something different, but they all became part of the story.

206 taught us to start small, but dream big.
214 taught us to grow and keep consistent .
115 gave us room to keep blooming.

And after 15 years, we’re still blooming.

September marks 15 years of Halcyon and we want to take you on a little journey to share our past present and future! 🎉

Our owner, Laura Gant Eslick , is sharing a little of our history so you can understand where we came from. Settle in for some story time. 😊💕📕

Before there was Halcyon, there was a whole lot of learning. My career began right here in Shelby. I worked at several salons, but one that made a lasting impression was Salon Palazzo, owned by Susan Silver Brown. She became a friend & mentor & remains both to this day.

Eventually, I moved to Charleston, where I was introduced to new ways of doing things. Some of those people were-
Hesse - Watching his attention to detail and precision helped me become a better Men’s stylist.
Boyd Fisher - (or JB, as we called her in the early 2000s 😜) was the first freeform stylist I ever observed. Watching her creativity made me feel like I had permission to express my own. She helped me find my “handwriting”—the way I personally create as a stylist.
Maddox - She taught me so much about leadership. She showed me that leadership isn’t just knowing what to do. It’s showing up, being present, & extending grace.

During those years, I also worked for Paul Mitchell. This pushed me to understand not just how I did things, but why. I got to meet so many amazing stylists from all over the country.

All of those experiences were preparing me for something I couldn’t see yet. After Donald & I married, we moved to the Charlotte/Lake Norman area. We were closer to home, but not quite home.

So in 2008, we moved back to Shelby. I rented a chair at Salon 206, owned by Conley & Cayce Renfroe I was back where I started. I was HOME.

I began to wonder: What would it look like to create something of my own for Shelby? What if I could bring a little of the good I had experienced along the way into one space?

I didn’t know what that something would become, but looking back, I can see that Halcyon was already taking shape. It didn’t start with a building or a logo. It started with people, experiences, lessons, and a whole lot of learning.
This is the story before Halcyon. ❤️

Lindsay has been in the hair industry since 2020 and has a passion for all things hair—from beautiful blonding and seamless gray coverage to extensions. With her expertise in men’s cutting, she truly has the whole family covered, creating looks that make every guest feel confident and completely themselves.

When she’s not at the salon, you’ll probably find Lindsay spending time with her family, singing & playing her guitar for anyone who will listen! 🎶🎸

We’re so happy you’re here, Lindsay! We can’t wait for you to meet all of our amazing Halcyon guests. 💜

Some people simply become part of a team. And then there’s Allie. 🥹

One year ago, we got to welcome this wonderfully quirky, genuinely kind, completely herself human into Halcyon—and we’re so glad we did.

Allie has a way of bringing her own little spark wherever she goes. She’s funny, creative, thoughtful, a little unpredictable in the very best way, and has a heart that shows up in the way she cares for the people around her.

She’s growing into such a beautiful stylist, but what makes us most proud is watching her become more and more Allie along the way. 💜

Thank you for bringing your individuality, your humor, your creativity, and your kind heart to Halcyon, Allie. There would definitely be a little less weirdness (and a lot less laughter 😂) around here without you.

Over a year with this beautiful human, and we couldn’t be more grateful she chose to grow with us. 🤍

Alyssa has such a genuine heart for her guests. She takes the time to listen, she cares about the little details, and she has a way of making the people feel truly seen and cared for. That kind of guest experience is something we value deeply at Halcyon.

But just as special is the way Alyssa shows up for her Halcyon family. She is always willing to lend a hand, cheer on a teammate, jump in when she’s needed, and contribute to the kind of supportive, collaborative environment we work hard to create here.

Watching her grow over this past year — both professionally and personally — has been such a joy. We are so proud of the esthetician and team member she is becoming, and even more thankful for the person she already is.

If you’ve visited Halcyon recently, you’ve probably noticed that things look a little different around here. We know the construction, noise, and temporary mess aren’t exactly the relaxing salon atmosphere you’re used to, and we truly appreciate your patience as we work through this exciting season of growth.

Behind these walls, we’re expanding and reimagining our treatment spaces to create a more comfortable, functional, and elevated experience for every guest who walks through our doors. While construction isn’t always pretty, the vision on the other side is something we’re incredibly excited about.

This renovation isn’t just about adding space—it’s about creating opportunities. As we grow, we’re also exploring the possibility of introducing new services in the future, allowing us to better serve our guests and continue building the experience we believe you deserve.
