I, like most of America, am feeling the grief of the loss of our national treasure, Dolly Parton. Though my family and I are not originally from Tennessee, we have made this place our home over the last five years. During that time, I have had the privilege to meet so many people who have been impacted by Dolly’s giving heart. Our own two daughters received books from her Imagination Library, and it was with great pride that we told them who the books were gifted from. We’ve met people whose lives were turned upside down by the Gatlinburg fires back in 2016, and suffered unimaginable loss. Yet, they were able to get back on their feet thanks to Dolly’s generosity. Though I never met her directly, the encounters I have heard from people who sat in our chairs are incredible. She was proud of her Appalachian heritage. She stood up for the oppressed across multiple different communities. She was truly an amazing and beautiful human being, inside and out. Dolly, we love you and know you’re reunited with Carl Dean. We will forever be grateful for the work you left behind here in Sevier county, and you’ve left us some awfully big boots to fill. 🦋
