"Music wouldn't be advertised without design, and design becomes stagnant without employing musical qualities such as rhythm, contrast, and harmony."
Beia Smith-Shaw is a graphic designer and musician who has long understood that the two fields share more than most people realize—the same principles, the same vocabulary, and the same goal of moving an audience.
Her BFA thesis, Headliner, is what happens when those worlds collide: a brand new typeface designed to serve as a visual language for music, built from the rhythms, dynamics, and movement she knows from both sides of the creative process.
To present the work, she needed a format that could keep up. Blurb's layflat book gave every page the full spread it deserved, with no gutters swallowing the details and no small format shrinking the scale of the typography.

A few moments from Hong Kong with the Cathay Camera Club. 📸
We're a company for creatives, by creatives. So we always love when we get a chance to get out into the field, be a part of the community, and make something real.
(Bonus points when dumplings are involved. 🥟)
Nobody tells you that the small steps are actually the big steps. 💡
When we don't know how to start or where to start, it's time for curiosity to take the lead—and that's exactly what zine making is all about.

Photography Without Borders is a Philadelphia-based nonprofit teaching young artists to document their world through photography. Their annual Photo Review book brings that work together, showcasing photographs and stories from youth across seven programs, from younger students picking up a camera for the first time to high school students pairing their images with writing coached this year by poet Ursula Rucker.
This year's cover belongs to Jazmine "Jazzy" Silva Sanchez, a student of the organization since 7th grade, who traveled to Mexico at 20 and documented her trip in a stunning photo series. One image, taken at a Three Kings Day celebration, made it to the front cover of this year's edition.
"Going back to Mexico really helped me gain an understanding of the culture, the traditions, and the role my culture plays in my life and why. I feel more self-assured, I feel more confident, I feel more 'me' than I did before."
