Is there such thing as a dumb question when you’re getting married?

For me, no. Please ask me as many questions as you want, whenever you want!

Chicago Wedding Photographer interesting reel but I’m not sure I agree on this with you. It technically *doesn’t* matter but our couples don’t know that. So I’d never say their question “doesn’t matter.”

If you’re getting married how do you feel about this?

Before I ever photographed weddings, I loved photojournalism.

I once spent four days taking photos of a tornado stricken area in Nashville in 2020 just weeks before covid shut the country down.

I spent every family holiday documenting as if I were being paid, because I wanted to remember it every time.

I photographed my family, local events like 5k runs, conferences, even my workplace.

I was drawn to real moments and stories — the kind you can only observe
The kind that reminds you every day that our life in unique

That’s why photography and weddings mean so much to me.
They hold so much of what is good:
love, connection, beauty, story

And getting to preserve those moments as they happen
will always feel like one of the most beautiful things in the world to me.
Nothing forced.
Nothing overdone.
Just people being themselves.

Because even myself now being divorced, I still remember so vividly the entire weekend of my wedding.
Not just one moment, but the feeling of the entire thing more than 10 years later.
And knowing that feeling, there’s nothing like it

That’s what I want my work to hold onto.
Not just how it looked, but how it felt.

A video reflecting on a recent post I made. It’s long but if you watch the whole thing, I hope it explains more of my intentions behind why I’m posting on Instagram and my life story.

Specifically in response to Shubha Tirumale (Seattle’s South Asian Wedding photographer) and Seattle Wedding Photographer thanks for getting me to think deeper about what I post and the way I’m posting it. I hope this helps clear up my intentions behind why I posted.

A few extra details not mentioned:
—I have shot many Indian wedding here in Seattle and love them every time
—I have been back to India two more times after this trip in 2017. The second time to India was in 2023 to revisit Kolkata and volunteer at Mother Theresa’s charity again, where I was once again challenged and heartbroken. I love visiting India because the culture is so different from western society and I always feel challenged in how I see life when I go there.
—I currently go to a Chinese church every Sunday and love being a part of other cultures, especially Chinese culture. And I am very grateful I’m accepted into this environment as a westerner/outsider.

Happy to have this conversation around experiences outside the US but please don’t view it from a place a privilege. I’m viewing it from a place of humility and gratefulness because of my experiences in life.

I’ve been asking myself whether I’m building wisely or just staying busy. You can be a work in progress but feel like you’re going nowhere.

Lately, I’ve been in a season where I’m trying all kinds of new things.

Paid advertising
Styled shoots
Sponsoring events
Posting on Social media
Sending more networking emails

I don’t fully know where this is leading, how it’s all going to work, or what the outcome will be

I don’t know if I’m just wasting time or actually being productive

But I do know this:
Staying still has never given me clarity.
Moving has.

So right now, I’m choosing to keep going before I feel fully certain.
This season feels less about having total certainty and more about failing, continuing to refine, learning, and trusting that consistency will reveal what belongs.
