We begin at dusk with Va Va Vanilla by Sarah Baker Perfumes. Espresso martini, black cherry and rum set the mood before vanilla, leather and woods take us inside a hidden speakeasy. The night is young. Then comes our first questionable decision. Incident Diplomatique by Jovoy Paris pairs an oversized dose of Java vetiver with nutmeg, patchouli and sandalwood. Dry, earthy and provocative, rules suddenly feel rather optional. Ambre Latte, new from Essential Parfums, offers something comforting—or so it seems. Almond milk, roasted tonka and dulce de leche wrap around powerful amber woods and sandalwood. Sweet enough to lure you in, with enough depth to keep you there.

Then Cedrat Lova, another new release by Montale, flashes bright with Sicilian citron, bergamot and lemon before sandalwood, oud and Cuban to***co pull us toward the shadows. Now for a twist into the darkness, Crème de Menthe Café by Statik Olfactive turns an after-dinner ritual into perfume: chocolate mint melted into coffee with a splash of Irish cream.
