How often should you really get a facial? ✨

Every 4–6 weeks has traditionally been recommended—but there’s a reason behind that timeline.

Our skin is constantly renewing itself, and just like we regularly maintain our hair and nails, our skin benefits from regular professional care too.

But a “facial” isn’t one specific treatment. Depending on your skin, it may include exfoliation, hydration, light chemical peels, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, extractions, LED light therapy and more.

And your facial doesn’t have to be exactly the same every month. Sometimes consistency is exactly what your skin needs, while other times the treatment may change based on your skin type, concerns, climate, home skincare and what your skin needs at that time.

Dermaplaning or microdermabrasion? They both exfoliate—but they don’t do exactly the same thing.

✨ Dermaplaning removes dead surface skin and peach fuzz, leaving skin exceptionally smooth and making it a great choice before photos, weddings, or special events.

✨ Traditional crystal microdermabrasion provides more intensive exfoliation and is often my choice for rough texture, dead skin buildup, mild congestion, clogged pores, and acne-prone skin.

And sometimes you don’t have to choose. Depending on your skin, I may use dermaplaning, microdermabrasion—or both—and combine them with other treatments for a more customized approach.

Clear + Brilliant vs. Microneedling — which is better?

The answer: it depends on your skin.

Both treatments stimulate collagen and can improve fine lines, enlarged pores, uneven texture, pigmentation, acne scarring, and overall skin quality—but they work differently.

✨ Clear + Brilliant creates fractional controlled thermal injury using non-ablative laser energy.

✨ Microneedling creates fractional controlled mechanical injury using very fine needles.

One important difference? Active acne. Microneedling should not be performed over active inflammatory or cystic acne. The acne needs to be controlled first before we treat the scarring it leaves behind.
And you don’t always have to choose one or the other. Depending on your skin, alternating different professional treatments over time can help address multiple concerns.
