STYLE 101: Lace Is Back — Liz Vamarasi

Lace had a whole moment in the '90s, and it's having one again — so we leaned all the way in. For Liz Vamarasi, we built the look around a lace corset, sharp and a little nostalgic, the kind of piece that does most of the talking on its own.

Then we layered on everything else. Rings, necklace, bracelets, an arm band, a belly chain, an anklet — stacked until the whole look felt fully considered, not accessorized as an afterthought.

We teamed it with black rhinestone boots for the main look, sharp and a little tough against the softness of the lace. An open-toe beige platform heel works too, if you want something lighter to finish the same silhouette.

STYLE 101: The Shakira Effect — Mohelata

Here's what we were chasing with this one: movement. Mohelata wanted the Shakira effect — that layered, ruffled skirt that moves the second you do, built for a body that isn't standing still.

We went all white and let the layers do the work. Slits in the skirt gave her the freedom to actually dance in it, not just pose in it. We paired that with a white rhinestone halter neck — and when it read a little too bare on its own, we lined it with a white bikini top, so the shine stayed.

Then we lathered on the jewellery, because why stop halfway. Necklace, rings, ear cuffs, an armband, bangles, a shell belly chain, and anklets — all in conversation with each other. A beige strappy heel closed the look without pulling focus from all that white.

This is dressing for movement first — the kind of look that's still working through dance and choreography.

STYLE 101: Building for the Stage — Kali Tui

Here's the thing about stage dressing: it gets to be a little excessive, and honestly, that's the fun part. Under the lights, the rules are different — bigger, bolder, built for the room.

We started with a black tutu — all swirl, all movement. Then we grounded it with a laced-up faux leather top, because you need something with a little attitude to hold a look together mid-spin.

Then we stacked the jewellery. Stacked necklaces down to a K pendant. Rings piled across every finger. Ear cuffs layered in with stacked earrings. Hair pinned back so all that sparkle isn't missed. A belly chain and armband that move with her, anklets and heels to complete the look.

This is diva dressing at its most joyful — the kind that's built to catch light, catch attention, and get seen all the way from the back row.

What an evening🤩. ARMEA Letila Mitchell's stunning documentary on Rotuman culture and the sacred hån lep he rua women, Rako Pasefika lit up the screen at Boulevard 14 — and the room felt it. We started with a Sip & Shop at Obsessed Shop, followed by a sea of red for Rotuma, and closed the night in true islander form: dinner together at Simmer Vietnamese Kitchen.

Film, fashion, food, family. This is what our film screening series is about. Vinaka to everyone who showed up — this is only the beginning.

One of our proudest moments: garlanding Chef Martin Yan with a Fijian salusalu — a traditional garland woven as a symbol of honor, love, and welcome. Watching our culture drape the shoulders of a man who has spent decades bringing Asian cuisine into millions of homes? That's what representation looks like.
