There’s a lot of noise out there — zinc supplements, drinking more water, avoiding the sun. Here’s what the actual research says.
How long should it last?
Most patients see results for 3–5 months, depending on the area treated, the dose used, and individual factors. There’s no single “normal” — duration genuinely varies by treatment site.
What the research shows actually predicts duration:
🔹 Dose matters — but more isn’t always better. Higher doses are linked to longer-lasting results, but the effect flattens out. More units doesn’t mean proportionally more time.
🔹 Consistency pays off. Patients who stay on a regular treatment schedule over time often find their results start lasting longer — this is one of the more reliably observed patterns in the research.
🔹 Biological s*x plays a role. Studies show men tend to see slightly longer duration (4–6 months) than women (3–5 months), likely related to muscle mass.
🔹 Where you’re treated matters more than almost anything else. The treatment area itself is one of the strongest predictors of how long results last — which is exactly why a good injector doesn’t treat every area the same way.
The 3 things proven to actually preserve your results long-term:
✅ Lowest effective dose + proper spacing between treatments (generally 12+ weeks) — this is the single best-supported strategy for keeping your results working well over time.
✅ Skip the “top-off” appointments. It’s tempting to sneak in a touch-up before the 12-week mark unless within the first 2 weeks, but frequent booster injections are associated with reduced long-term effectiveness over time.
✅ If your results seem to be fading faster than they used to, tell your injector. Sometimes switching formulations can restore a stronger response — this is a real, documented clinical strategy, not just “trying something different.”
The takeaway: the biggest lever is dose, timing, and technique. That’s exactly why individualized treatment plans matter more than following a generic formula. 💛
