Two formulas you may hear about are traditional thioglycolate and cysteamine HCl. Both can create beautifully lifted lashes, but the way we work with them—and how we approach the natural lash—can be different.

Thioglycolate has been used in traditional perming and lash-lift systems for years and generally works relatively quickly.
Cysteamine HCl is a thioglycolate-free reducing agent found in many newer lifting systems. Its more gradual processing has made it an increasingly popular option for artists looking for greater control during a service.
Different chemistry. Same goal: reshaping the natural lash into a beautiful lift.

What Does It Mean for Your Lashes?
There isn’t one formula that’s right for every set of lashes.
Natural lash thickness, condition, previous chemical services and resistance can all influence how a lash responds to processing.
That’s why a lash lift should be more than following a timer. Assessment, product selection, timing and technique all matter.
The goal isn’t simply the biggest curl—it’s a beautiful result while being thoughtful about the natural lash.

Is Cysteamine Better?
The answer is more nuanced than yes or no.
Cysteamine has become popular as a more gradual, lash-conscious alternative to traditional thioglycolate formulas—but that doesn’t make it damage-proof. Any lash-lifting chemistry can overprocess the natural lash when used incorrectly.

Lip blush is a process, not an instant result. 💋
One of the questions I hear most often is, “What will my lips look like while they’re healing?” So I documented this client’s first few days to show you what the process can actually look like.
Immediately after treatment, the pigment will appear richer, darker, and more dramatic than the final result. Over the next several days, the lips begin to soften, flake, and may even look a little patchy as the skin heals. This is all part of the journey.
By Day 4, you can already see how much softer and more natural the color has become, but we’re still not at the final result. Lip blush continues to heal and settle over approximately 4–6 weeks, revealing a softer wash of color underneath.
For this client, the goal wasn’t to create a “lipstick” look. It was to bring back definition, enhance her natural shape and cupid’s bow, and give her lips a more balanced, polished appearance while still looking like her lips.
And this is exactly why I tell my clients: don’t judge your lip blush by Day 1. Trust the healing process. 🌸
