Dear counterfeit factories, Chanel made more than one serial number. I promise! You’ve changed the leather, the hardware, the factories, the technology… but 10218184? NEVER. Is this your emotional support serial number?!

But for real now: your bag should only have ONE identification code, either a microchip or a serial number sticker, never both. If you see both on the same bag, please don’t waste your money on authentication. ❤️

Please be very careful with bags advertised as sample bags, especially newer designs. The number of counterfeits being marketed this way is getting out of control.

Also, don’t let the seller’s reputation influence your judgment, even if they’re a huge name. We authenticate the bag, not the seller.

🔍 Level: Hard

Why is this Classic Flap a counterfeit?

The answer is hidden in the photos.

Can you spot the flaw? 👀

Determining whether a bag is authentic or fake on a standard level of authentication is not simply a yes-or-no answer. In reality, authenticating authenticity is often the easy part when the bag is clearly genuine (easy standard). The harder part is determining whether what you are buying is still the bag Chanel originally created.

That is why I ask for photos some consider unnecessary or even “ridiculous.” Chanel is extremely strict when it comes to major repairs and alterations. Authenticity and originality are not the same thing. An authentic bag with heavy undisclosed alterations no longer represents its original form.

In this flap, the stitching was redone carelessly, and the bag underwent extensive touch-ups inside and out with unprofessional workmanship. You are not simply authenticating an “authentic medium flap.” You are authenticating an authentic REFURBISHED medium flap, and the word REFURBISHED deserves to be in capital letters.

Think about it this way: if one photo could reveal something capable of changing the entire story of the bag, was it really unnecessary?

Store It Right: How to Maintain Your Chanel Bag and Its Value

I get asked about this detail often, so it’s time to break it down properly and help you know your bag on a deeper level.

On the inner flap of a Medium Classic Double Flap, you’ll see the embroidered CC logo. At the ends of the curved sections, you’ll notice a few small lock stitches. The number of these stitches can vary, and that’s exactly why I always say: never rely on stitch count alone for authentication. It’s not fixed.

Let’s dig deeper.

The stitching on a Chanel bag can be executed in different ways depending on the part of the bag being stitched, stitching technique, and the era in which it was made.

In general, Chanel stitching methods fall into three main techniques and all these three are used on each flap on different areas of the flap.

- Fully computerized machines
- Machines with manual operator control
- Hand-guided stitching

Today, the CC logo is typically done using computerized embroidery machines for precision, it is one of the most important identity elements of the bag. However, in earlier periods, it was often done using manually operated machines.

Several factors influence how those lock stitches appear and how the counts vary.

- Type of machine used, manual vs. computerized effects consistency.
- Machine settings, different programs produce different lock lengths.
- Leather type, softer leather vs. firmer leather changes stitch behavior.
- Thread type, thicker threads may require more counts than finer ones with longer weaves.
- Era of production, more variations due to different technique and logo design proportions of that time.

Counterfeit bags often look “perfect” because they follow a fixed checklist, same stitch count, same spacing, same ex*****on every time. But authenticity doesn’t come from perfection. It comes from understanding the process behind each piece.

Real bags reflect the hand, the machine, the material, and the moment they were made in.
Fakes reflect a script.

Even when they look cute, they still have to prove it.
