The Patient Buffalo

A powerful buffalo lived peacefully beneath a forest tree. A troublesome monkey discovered that the buffalo would not hurt him, so he repeatedly climbed onto his back, pulled his horns and swung from his tail.

A tree spirit watched this behavior and asked, “Why do you tolerate such disrespect? Use your strength and punish him.”

The buffalo answered, “If I become cruel because he behaves badly, his conduct will have changed my character. I would rather remain patient and leave this place.”

After the buffalo departed, another buffalo rested beneath the tree. Thinking every animal would tolerate his mischief, the monkey began tormenting the newcomer.

This buffalo was not so patient. The monkey discovered too late that kindness should never be mistaken for weakness—and that reckless behavior eventually brings consequences.

Lesson: Patience protects our character, but another person’s kindness should never be treated as permission to behave badly.
