I vow to be loving, kind, and merciful to myself more and more. 💖
In the journey of healing and growth, the most powerful place to begin is within. Today, I choose compassion over criticism, grace over judgment, and gentle care over harsh expectations.
May this intention ripple outward—for myself, my family, and all those I serve through AJ Bodywork.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is an excellent tool for post-exercise recovery. It uses gentle, rhythmic, skin-stretching techniques to stimulate the lymphatic system, which helps clear metabolic waste, reduce inflammation and swelling, ease soreness (including DOMS), and speed up muscle repair.

How It Helps Recovery After Exercise

Intense workouts produce metabolic byproducts like lactic acid, excess fluid, and inflammatory markers that can build up in tissues. The lymphatic system (unlike the circulatory system, which has the heart as a pump) relies on muscle movement, breathing, and external stimulation to flow.

MLD enhances this process:
• Reduces swelling and inflammation — By moving excess fluid and waste toward lymph nodes for elimination.
• Speeds removal of waste products — Including lactic acid and muscle enzymes, leading to less stiffness and soreness. Studies on athletes (e.g., MMA) show faster decreases in blood markers and reduced soreness up to 48 hours later.
• Improves circulation and nutrient delivery — Bringing oxygen and repair materials to muscles while boosting immune function.
• Eases DOMS and supports flexibility — Helping athletes return to training sooner with less discomfort.
• Promotes relaxation — Calming the nervous system, which can aid overall recovery and sleep.
It’s particularly useful for legs/lower body after runs, hikes, or leg days, but applies to full-body recovery. Many athletes incorporate it post-workout (sometimes waiting 24 hours for acute inflammation to settle) or as part of a routine.

Post-Surgical Lymphatic Drainage and Its Benefits
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, specialized massage technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system after surgery. Surgical procedures often disrupt normal fluid flow, leading to swelling (edema), bruising, and discomfort. Post-surgical MLD uses light, rhythmic movements to encourage lymph circulation, redirect excess fluid, and accelerate the body’s natural healing process.
Key benefits include significant reduction in swelling and inflammation, faster resolution of bruising, decreased pain, and improved mobility. It helps prevent complications such as fibrosis, seromas, and scar tissue adhesions while supporting immune function and toxin removal. Many patients experience quicker recovery, better surgical outcomes, and enhanced comfort during the healing journey.
Incorporating MLD into your post-operative care promotes smoother recovery and restored well-being. Schedule an appointment for personalized sessions tailored to your procedure.
