Hair changes hit hard, especially when every inch already feels precious.
That's exactly why I stepped into M's journey the way I did: carefully. This was never about a dramatic transformation. It was about helping her shape work for her again, giving her ends friends, and softly blending the shift instead of taking away more than she was ready for.
We paired a Curl Cut and Care Session with a Replenish treatment, and are choosing more frequent maintenance cuts, doing a little more, more often, instead of waiting until something drastic becomes necessary.
A hydrating care and styling routine is helping pump up her strands so they don't just look and feel like more; they actually are more. More mass. More strength.
This is what it looks like to meet someone exactly where they are, and help them feel like themselves again.

Trying to get a solid curl cast and it's just not happening? Here's what's likely going wrong…
Not enough cast at all? You're probably not using enough gel, or you're touching and moving your hair too much while it dries - every touch breaks the cast before it can even set.
Cast feels too crunchy, too hard, too much? That's usually an alcohol-based gel doing its thing, especially on hair that's already dehydrated.
The fix is simpler than it sounds:
💫Use enough water-based gel.
💫 Avoid touching your hair while it dries.
💫 Make sure your hair is fully saturated and hydrated, so when you scrunch out the crunch, you're left with soft, juicy curls, not straw.
Small tweaks, big difference.

Wondering what a first visit at Haven actually looks like? Here's what to expect, start to finish.
It starts before you arrive; you'll get all the details ahead of time, so you walk in prepared, not unsure.
Once here, settle into my private suite and fill out your intake form in your own words: your hair history, your goals. I'll make you a signature latte while you do.
We consult together so nothing gets missed, building a cut and plan around what actually works for you.
Then, the service: your curl cut, usually on dry hair, with a mirror in your hand the whole time.
Next, your care session: detox, cleanse, hydrate, and a real look at what your hair actually needs.
Styling comes last, done for you or with you, depending on your session. A final shake-out and check, and you're set.
This is what a first visit at Haven feels like: prepared, cared for, never guessing.

I've had curls since I was a teenager. And for most of that time, I fought them.
There was a brief window where I tried to embrace them, but mostly, I just fought against what I was given. It wasn't until I had a curly girl of my own that something shifted. Wanting to help her embrace hers sparked something in me - a desire to finally understand and embrace mine, too. And as a hairstylist, of course I wanted them to be the absolute best they could be.
That's what catapulted me into the curl world. I'm a learner by nature...and I couldn't get enough. Curls had me.
Somewhere in that process, I realized what I really wanted was something that hadn't existed for me: a supportive place, real curl care, an environment built entirely around curls. So I created it.
That's how I ended up here...all in on curls, building the place I needed back when I was still fighting mine.

DM "READY" for the details. Doors close 9/13!

Summer, as we know it, is over after Labor Day. Some days it still feels that way. Other days? Not so much. Welcome to Michigan.
Your curls feel this shift before you even clock it consciously. We go from humidity-frizz season to dryness season, sometimes within the same week. Understanding that shift matters, because it's the difference between frustration with your hair and a little compassion for what it's actually dealing with.
Here's my #1 tip for the seasonal switch: shift your product ratios.
As you move from humid air to dry air, ease off your gel/sealer, and increase your cream/primer. Your hair doesn't need as much hold right now - it needs more hydration. Same routine, different balance.
Small shift, big difference in how your curls feel through the transition.

I've had an idea brewing for a while now, and I can't shake it.
It's equal parts thrilling and a little scary to put this out into the world, but here it goes...
I've felt the need to offer more significant mentorship on curly journeys. Not more information to add to the overwhelm, but something personal and step by step, built around real life, that actually brings clarity and confidence instead of more noise.
So I started listening more closely. The more I talked to the curlies who sit in my chair, the more it kept pointing me toward moms of curly-haired kids specifically. And the deeper I dug into what those moms actually need, the more I craved a space to go further. A place to actually get to curl confidence, for both mom and child, a place to ask the honest questions and to connect with other moms who genuinely get it.
I didn't set out to build something like this. But now, I can't not think about it.
What if there was a space where we could:
🌿 Finally kill the overwhelm.
🏡 Build routines that actually fit real, busy family life.
💛 Help mom feel confident caring for her child's curls, so that child grows up confident in them too.
A space built for growth, support, and real momentum toward good curl days, without the confusion, the endless searching, or the constant overwhelm.
The more I sit with this, the more I believe it could be something genuinely meaningful.
And here's the honest part…I don't have every piece figured out yet. That's exactly why I want to build this with you, not for you. I want it to reflect what
you actually need as a mom raising curly kids.
Wherever you're doing curly hair from - down the street or across the country - this is for you.
Here's the invitation, come build this with me from day one. Your questions and insight will shape what this becomes…and as a thank-you for being early, you'll lock in $200 off, a rate that won't be available once this opens to everyone else.
Right now, this is just the beginning. Nothing is finished yet, and some of the best parts of this will come straight from you and the rest of the founding group. From now through launch, we'll brainstorm, refine, and build this whole thing to life, side by side.
If you're in and want to be part of this from the start, DM me "READY" by 9/13, and I'll send you all the details. Know someone this could serve? Share it with them!
I'm so grateful for this community. I can't wait to build this together.

Not every curl type. Not every texture. Not every "before" starts the same way. But every single one of these guests came in with the same problem: inconsistent cuts + shape that left their curls unpredictable and visually unbalanced.
Here's what consistency actually looks like, across every curl pattern that walks through my door.

"I just wanted to let you know my hair looks amazing - best haircut and style yet!"
That's Jessica, after a Signature Curl Cut maintenance session.
We updated one thing in her routine: swapping her sealer/mousse for a multitasker that gives her more root lift and still delivers that scrunching mousse action she needed.
One small swap. Big difference.
This is what happens when you're consistent, you're using water-loving, clean products, and you start viewing your products as tools - ones that can be adjusted and swapped as your life and your goals change, not locked in forever.
Offering that fresh perspective isn't a one-time thing. It's part of every single maintenance visit.
