Hair naturally moves through cycles, and some shedding is part of that process. Life has seasons of release too. Not everything leaving you is evidence that you're failing. Sometimes making room is part of moving forward.
Release doesn't always mean ruin.
Follow for more on scalp health, faith, and healthy hair at every age.

Whatever stage you're in right now, you are not less. Care for your scalp because you're worth caring for, not because you're trying to earn your worth back.

Healthy hair is built through what happens consistently between the "after" pictures: cleansing, conditioning, nutrition, protection and patience. Much of spiritual growth is built the same way, in prayer, obedience, rest and the decisions nobody applauds.
Take care of what no one can see yet.

Nobody hands you a manual for this part. Drier strands, slower growth, a texture you don't recognize. That isn't you doing something wrong. It's a new season that needs a new approach.

Hair growth is a process. Healing is a process. Becoming is a process. You don't have to force visible evidence just because you're uncomfortable with the pace. Being rooted means trusting that what God planted is still alive, even when it's quiet.

If your hair is short right now, this is NOT the waiting stage. This is the training stage.
Looking back at this version of my hair, I see the season when I was getting my reps in.
Short hair gave me the opportunity to learn my hair while there was less of it to manage.
I could practice shampooing thoroughly.
Learn what properly conditioned hair felt like.
Get better at detangling.
Experiment with styling techniques.
Figure out what products actually worked for me.
And build the consistency of caring for my hair regularly.
Because here’s what happens when your hair gets longer:
Wash day gets longer too. 😂
There’s more hair to section, cleanse, condition, detangle and style. Techniques that take 15 minutes on short hair may take considerably longer once you’ve retained several inches.
So if your goal is longer hair, don’t wait until you have long hair to develop the habits required to care for it.
Build the routine while it’s easier. Get your reps in now.
By the time your hair requires more time and effort, shampooing, conditioning, detangling and styling shouldn’t feel like brand-new skills. You’ve already built the muscle.
That’s part of Hair Literacy too.
You aren’t just growing hair.
You’re becoming the person who knows how to care for the hair you’re asking to have. 💊
What part of your hair routine do you need more reps in right now? 👇🏾

our years ago I shaved my head. Today my hair touches my shoulders, and I skipped most of what people swear by. Hair grows from a healthy scalp. My job was to keep it healthy and stop breaking it off.
Follow along. I'm documenting my whole grow-out journey this month.

Changing products won't solve every scalp problem. And changing circumstances won't solve every heart problem. When the same symptoms keep showing up, sometimes it's time to look deeper.
What's happening at the root?

Your identity has been anchored in your hair when it should’ve been anchored in God.
Be honest — how many times has a bad hair day changed everything about how you showed up?
You canceled. You hid. You shrunk.
That’s not a hair problem sis. That’s an identity problem. And God has something to say about it.
