Yak Milk Soap by Yak My Body
Yakma’s primary production site is located in Dechen Village, Bairi Tibetan Autunomous County, Gansu Province.
A body-care women social enterprise with handmade, natural yak milk products using locally sourced milk from grass-fed and free-roaming yaks, Tibetan herbs, and all-natural ingredients. The region is known for its white yaks, most of which are owned by local Tibetan nomads. Yak milk is superior to other milk in terms of nutrients. It has a higher fat content, and is richer in protein, vitamin A and calcium. Yak milk from this region is naturally organic as the yaks are roaming around the grassland freely. When the two of us (Dawa and Danma) decided to fund Yakma, we envisioned a social enterprise that not only aims to bring our customers the highest quality organic/naturally sourced body care products, but also an opportunity to join our mission of empowering Tibetan women from rural areas that otherwise have no prospects of employment. As our business idea of using our locally sourced organic yak milk as base ingredient to make body care products coming to life, we decided to name our company གཡང་དཀར་མ (pronounced “yang ka ma” in Tibetan). In Tibetan, “yang” means livestock, which is equivalent to wealth or prosperity for someone who lives off farming and herding animals; “ka” means white; and “ma” means a female or mother figure. We want our business to be from the community and for the community, while providing the highest quality products for our most socially responsible customers. Yakma employs bright and passionate rural Tibetan women (who are struggling to make ends meet) to make yak milk based body care products including facial and body wash soaps. Yak milk is sourced locally from farmers and nomads. The high content of moisturizing ingredients and great fragrances make yak milk body care products a treat to the skin. The soaps are made in small batches with saponified yak tallow, rapeseed oil, and yak milk, coconut oil, olive oil, aloe, along with all natural herbs for scents.
Hey you, this Labor Day, treat yo'self with our beautifully handcrafted yak milk soaps! Our soaps got a new look too!

It's wedding season back home!
One of the most important rituals for a traditional Bairi Tibetan wedding is braiding the bride's hair: the beautiful bride has her hair carefully braided by females from her side of the family while they sing traditional wedding songs to her. It is the most intimate moment that the bride has with her mother, grandmother, aunts, and sisters before the wedding.
