The Association of African American Museums celebrated: Voices of Democracy Commemorating the Voting Rights Act's 60th Anniversary in Charleston, SC this summer. Thank you especially big goes to the West Baton Rouge Museum for continuing to invest in AAAM where such meaningful conversations with other Black museum professionals help us to ensure our programs, events, and exhibits represent not just diversity but is accurate and authentic. Additional thank you goes to The Penn Center in St. Helena Island and Executive Director, Dr. Adams for the private tour and Judge McDomick, a native of West Feliciana, for the last minute hustle to meet us! Thank you to the Gibbs Museum of Art and the International African American Museum for their remarkable hospitality. To Louisiana's own, Kathe Hambrick, Executive Director of the Amistad Research Center and Dr. Joy Banner of the Descendants Project, congratulations! It was a highlight to sit in during your panel sessions...just BRAVO! Finally, to Dr. Edward Fields-Black, Pultizer Prize winning author of COMBEE...thank you for the unexpected inspiration during our conversation. It was as big as the blue sky and as wide as the Combee River. 💙

The Descendants Project celebrated Julyteeth with a worthy panel discussion featuring the Brickler family - descendants of Harriet Tubman, Dr. Alexander Brickler and son, Dr. A.J. Brickler III, Pultizer Prize author of COMBEE, Dr. Ethan Fields-Black, and Amber Mitchell, Curator of Black History at the Henry Ford Museum.

Major 🙌🏾👊🏿 to Solange for the work she lovingly contributes to placing a spotlight on her hometown through Arts awareness and restoring the Eldorado Ballroom. Kudos to you!
