Morrow rock is the place to surf 8 August 2026.

* Best window: roughly 6:30–9:30 AM. I’d personally try to paddle out around 7:00–8:00 AM. Morning gives you the best chance of lighter/cleaner wind before the typical coastal wind increases.
* Swell direction: NW is ideal at the Rock. West also works well. The Rock is considerably more exposed to that energy than Santa Barbara.
* Wind: What you want is east/offshore or very light wind. East wind blows from land toward the ocean there and cleans up the faces. Once it becomes westerly/onshore, quality generally drops.
* Tide: Morro Rock can work through all stages of the tide, which is another reason it’s a good bet. A rising tide is generally favorable, so we don’t have to hit one tiny tide window.
* Wave character: Beach break with both lefts and rights. On a smaller day, the area immediately around the Rock can produce longer, softer lefts; farther north you’ll find more conventional beach-break peaks.
* Water: Expect it to be cold—roughly upper-50s°F, so I’d definitely be thinking wetsuit.

If you’re surfing around Santa Maria or San Luis Obispo County tomorrow morning, I’d head to Pismo Beach or Morro Strand, depending on your skill level.

* Pismo Beach should have 2–3 foot waves early, with lighter winds in the morning before the afternoon onshore breeze picks up. It’s probably the best all-around bet for a fun session.
* Morro Strand is expected to be a bit bigger, around 3–4 feet, if you’re looking for more power.
* Cayucos can work too, especially on a rising high tide, but it may be a little inconsistent compared with Pismo tomorrow.

Shell Beach

It will likely have similar wave quality, but the reefs make it less forgiving if you wipe out. Because of the long-period swell, the reef spots can get punchier than they first appear.

Morro Rock

Probably the biggest and most powerful surf Saturday morning. Better if you’re specifically looking for more challenging waves

In case you were wondering where to surf this weekend on the Central Coast.

Pismo Beach North Pier ⭐ Best overall

* 2–4 ft surf with light NNW wind (around 4 mph), so the waves should be the cleanest of the day before the afternoon onshore wind arrives.
* The incoming 21-second south groundswell should produce occasional fun, well-shaped sets without making it overwhelmingly large.
* The sandy bottom and forgiving beach break make it a good choice for progressing your surfing.

My ranking for Monday

1. 🥇 Morro Rock / Morro Strand
2. 🥈 Cayucos
3. 🥉 Pismo Beach
4. Avila Beach

Yesterday‘s forecast called Morro Rock as the best place to paddle out tomorrow. For Addie Street junkies, Pismo Beach will have rideable waves, but it won’t pick up the northwest swell as well as Morro does.

If you liked Saturday’s forecast, the winner for Sunday is again Morro Bay.

3+ ft at dawn, with clean conditions early.
* Long-period west swell (around 15–16 seconds) should produce more powerful, better-shaped waves than the raw height suggests.
* Very light winds around sunrise, with onshore winds increasing later in the day.

I decided to make the call for the best surf location on Saturday, Saturdays between Pismo Beach and Cayucos.

Morro Bay (Morro Rock / Morro Strand) – Best overall

* Forecast: 4–5 ft, chest to head high.
* The northwest swell is expected to favor the more exposed beaches around Morro Bay.
* Early morning winds should be the cleanest before afternoon onshores develop.
* Best time: Sunrise to about 10:00 a.m.

Funny thing happened today. I was surfing Pismo Beach, Addie Street, and this crazy surfer without a wetsuit paddle by. We both paddled in at the same time. He was a little far away from me, but I noticed he was oddly muscular. When I got a little closer I realized it was Zac Efron. For reelz. I talked to him in the water, but didn’t know who it was.
