Why stress can raise your blood sugar 🩸
When you’re stressed, your body releases cortisol. That’s normal in the short term — but when cortisol stays high, it can make your cells less responsive to insulin (insulin resistance).
Here’s how it happens:
• Cortisol tells your liver to make more glucose
• It interferes with insulin’s signal in muscle and fat cells, so less sugar gets pulled out of your blood
• It also raises free fatty acids, which further blunt insulin’s effect
• Basically, cortisol’s job is to keep energy (sugar) available for “fight or flight.” When that signal stays on too long, blood sugar can stay elevated.
The result: more sugar produced, less sugar cleared from the blood.
Chronic stress, poor sleep, and other factors can make this worse over time. Managing stress isn’t just about feeling better — it can also help support healthier blood sugar levels.

Morning sunlight is one of the simplest upgrades you can make to your day.
Stepping outside within the first hour of waking—even for 5–10 minutes—helps set your circadian clock, supports more stable energy, and can improve sleep quality later that night. Natural sun light, especially first thing in the morning, signals your brain to suppress melatonin and raises cortisol in a healthy morning pattern, which many people notice as clearer focus and a better mood.

LETS TALK LABS
"Normal” on a lab report isn’t the same as optimal.
Standard medical ranges are built to flag disease. They cover the middle ~95% of people tested—including many with early dysfunction. Functional ranges are tighter targets used to catch imbalances while they’re still easier to address with nutrition and lifestyle.
A result can be “normal” and still line up with fatigue, hair loss, or brain fog. The goal isn’t more diagnoses—it’s whether the number supports how you actually feel.
Labs are only one piece. Interpretation belongs with a clinician who knows your history.

Feeling deconditioned and not sure where to start with exercise?
You don’t need a gym or fancy equipment. Just walk outside.
10–15 minutes. Around the block. A quiet street. A park if you have one.
Walking outdoors can:
• lift your mood and lower stress
• support heart health and blood pressure
• help blood sugar
• ease joint-friendly movement back into your day
• give you daylight, fresh air, and better sleep
Start SMALL. Stay CONSISTENT. That’s how it begins.

If you’re exhausted from the moment you wake up, running on coffee just to get through the day, and crashing every afternoon…
That’s not normal.
It’s often a cortisol problem: the morning spike that should wake you never fully arrives, and the hormone stays messy later in the day instead of winding down. Let us help you fix the true problem and get you feeling your best.

Gut health starts with the basics:
whole foods, less ultra-processed junk, less added sugar, and better stress management.
If that’s already in place and something still feels off — test, don’t guess.
What’s happening in the gut can explain more than just digestive issues. The gut and brain are constantly talking and when it's off it can affect mood, hormones, sleep and so many other things. We provide affordable testing to find the root cause of your symptoms.

Feeling wired and exhausted by mid-afternoon isn’t a willpower problem. It’s a cortisol-rhythm problem.
Cortisol should peak in the morning and taper through the day. Chronic stress flattens that curve, so you wake up tired and stay wired at night.
Take five minutes right now: step outside, breathe slowly, put the phone down. Small resets during the day protect the whole rhythm.

Hot flashes aren’t just “low estrogen.” After the ovaries slow down, your adrenals help pick up the slack with DHEA—the precursor your body uses to make estrogen and testosterone. When DHEA-S drops with age or chronic stress, that backup system can falter, and vasomotor symptoms can hit harder.
Functional medicine starts with data, not a one-size-fits-all pill: test DHEA-S, cortisol rhythm, and s*x hormones; support adrenals and stress load, let us test and develop a a personalized plan, not a standalone fix.
Hormones and supplementation aren’t OTC guesswork and we can help.

Can’t sleep—and it isn’t “just stress.”
Healthy cortisol peaks after you wake, then falls so it hits a low point at night. That’s the window when sleep can actually stick.
Insomnia often rides with a disrupted version of that rhythm: modestly higher cortisol overall, extra evening/early-night levels, and sometimes extra pulses after lights-out. High cortisol at the wrong hour keeps the brain in “stay alert” mode. Broken sleep can then flatten the next day’s curve. Our test is a take home saliva test that will map your cortisol levels several times throughout the day and will help you get that rhythm back to normal.
