Philly Foodworks
Philly's most flexible CSA, with options to meet everyone's needs. The percent of each dollar spent on food that reaches the producer has decreased.
Throughout the past fifty years the mainstream food production system in America has promoted the consolidation of land, money and power; encouraging fewer producers with greater scale and less cultural, environmental, and crop diversity. Competitive economics has pushed smaller farms and our food further from city borders, while requiring new ways, often unhealthy, to preserve and transport this

The recent reports about the Cyclospora outbreak have garnered significant media attention. This prompts a moment of reflection regarding the origins of the food we consume.
Although the exact cause of this outbreak remains unverified, it encourages an examination of our food sources. At Philly Foodworks, we prioritize transparency regarding the products available in our market.
By collaborating directly with nearby farmers, we build open relationships that provide insights into cultivation processes and the individuals behind them. These farmers are eating the food they are growing. This awareness is crucial, particularly during times when our health is at risk.
Patterns of foodborne illnesses are often linked to large-scale agricultural operations, whereas smaller local farms are typically not associated with these issues. Purchasing from the local producers we partner with at Philly Foodworks reduces the distance your food travels and minimizes the number of handlers involved, thereby lowering the risk of contamination.
Despite inherent risks, being informed about the farmers who cultivate your food creates a transparent food chain so we can make informed decisions about what we're consuming.
We encourage you to support your local farmers and follow standard food safety practices at home, including washing your produce. We will continue to provide transparency about the items on our market.
Ruth Bennett Community Farm is located 10 miles from Philly, behind the Chester Housing Authority, where they grow chemical-free flowers and produce. They're one of our low-cost produce box partners, which allows them to distribute 120 boxes of free produce twice a month to nearby residents.
Your support through the purchase of flower bouquets and more through the Philly Foodworks' market helps support programs like this.
During the summertime βοΈ, our Market Manager, Amanda, prepares her son's lunch for camp. She focuses on using fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables π₯ while also incorporating some favorite pantry snacks π₯¨ from the PFW market. This combination creates a delicious and healthy meal that is perfect for a quick summer lunch. It requires minimal effort and cooking, helping to keep the house cool!
