IMPOSSIBLE IS NOT FRENCH

SILENCE......

Yes, I smile… but behind that smile live sadness, fatigue, and a quiet storm.
My mind runs between and , between and , between the East Coast of the States and .
I love , its beauty, its generosity, the River, and the trees that guard our city like old souls.
But today, I am afraid. Afraid to see fire reach what I love. Afraid of what we are becoming.

Standing in front of my painting at the Maguire Museum, I feel both and .
Everywhere, rise. finally understand:
This is only the beginning. We must , , and .

We have been sounding the for more than thirty years.
The only strange relief in this moment?
The silence of .
No more “it’s summer, it’s normal,”
no more “remember the drought of ’76”…
Finally, .

It is in the heart of the fire that must be imposed for 2027.
Will you remain in denial of ?
Or will you your way of living?
Will you continue drowning in entertainment while the # burns?
Or will you choose ?

I read this sentence:

“We are living the coolest summer of the rest of our lives.”

What is happening was announced decades ago.
And what comes next was announced too.
These events are nothing compared to what will follow if nothing changes.
A global, radical shift is now the only path to save us.

Perhaps we have entered a new era without realizing it.
For so long, progress meant building more.
Now, progress means making things last, not out of nostalgia, but out of respect.
A is judged by how it cares for what it has received before passing it on.

The 21st century may teach us to honor those who know how to transmit.
The has come to accept , in our , our , our , and our .

IMPOSSIBLE IS NOT FRENCH.

This work is a mirror, literally and metaphorically, asking us to see ourselves in the reflection of crisis. It is a call to responsibility, to tenderness, to action. The Anthropocene is not a distant era; it is now. The red alert is sounding.

Near , has been swallowed by flames. Wildlife fleeing, suffering, dying. A sanctuary erased.

And while our collapse, negligence continues. No water‑bombing planes. No preparation. No protection.

Meanwhile our endure cities turned into ovens:

The climate crisis is not tomorrow it is now.

Global WarNing: The Alarm Still Rings [made in 2019]
Philadelphia, July 2026
https://www.chantalwestby.com/globalwarning
Seven years after the first presentation of at the Alliance Française de Philadelphie, the world burns hotter, and silence grows colder. When Lénaïc Gasquet Mercier and I created this , we sought to , to make the invisible visible, and the distant immediate.

We reached out to more than a hundred , , and . None replied. Their silence mirrors the that still blinds too many to the tragedy unfolding before our eyes: the heat waves ravaging , the threatening , the rising with quiet fury.

Global WarNing was never just an . It was, and remains, an act of - a . The tornado at its heart responded to presence: the more we gathered, the more it calmed. That symbol still speaks today. Only together can we dissipate the storm.

As we republish the video, we our vow: to with , with , and despair with .
Our weapon is not technology- it is and the to care.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Come join us for the opening and witness her monumental cityscape of Philadelphia—THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE—selected as a signature artwork for our 250th anniversary celebration.

Standing more than 20 feet wide, this sweeping vision of Philadelphia anchors the with a presence that is both intimate and immense. It invites viewers into a moment suspended between past and future, echoing the spirit of a city that has always rebuilt, reimagined, and risen again.
Artist Statement: Dawn of New World .

Created in the stillness of 2020, Dawn of New World emerged from a Philadelphia held between fear and possibility. Across its expansive 83-by-250-inch horizon, color becomes a language of hope—a sky shifting from darkness into light, its vertical drips recalling rainfall, memory, and the quiet tears of an uncertain time.

The silhouetted cityscape grounds the piece in our shared human experience: isolated yet connected, vulnerable yet resilient. Through layered pigments, minerals, and silver leaf, the work captures the emotional tension of that moment—the longing for connection, the fragility we carried, and the courage it took to imagine a new beginning.
This painting invites viewers to stand at the threshold of transformation and to feel, even for a breath, the promise of a new dawn.

Here are my paintings, carrying a message close to my heart.
I am celebrating World Ocean Week by sharing my art honoring the unsung heroes of the ocean. 🌊

While much of the world looks elsewhere, last year in Nice, a crucial summit unfolds. The stakes? Nothing less than the future of our oceans.
Fishing, warming, preservation, the challenges are enormous. The oceans make life possible, yet they are reaching their limits:
• Absorbing 25% of our CO₂ emissions
• Generating 50% of the oxygen we breathe
• Regulating our climate, mitigating extremes, storing heat
• Home to a unique biodiversity—now threatened at high speed
But they are saturating. Acidification, overfishing, plastic pollution, rapid warming, the warning signs are everywhere.
At this summit, leaders must act:
✔️ Protect 30% of the oceans by 2030
✔️ Regulate the high seas, today almost a lawless zone
✔️ Fight against deep-sea mining
✔️ Establish real financing mechanisms

Without healthy oceans, there is no balance.
Through my art, I amplify this message. My paintings reflect the silent distress signals of our planet, the warming waters, the vanishing biodiversity, and the SOS of a world in crisis.
As negotiations unfold—with outcomes we can only hope for, let’s poetically remind the world that the ocean’s call grows louder.
It is time to listen, and to act.

It's surely our responsibility to do everything within our power
Two paintings from my collection and my book
THE OCEAN, THE EARTH, SPACE, AND HUMANITY
