One common trichology myth is that visible hair changes always tell us the whole story. In reality, shedding, breakage, thinning, scalp irritation, and changes in density may have different contributing factors—and careful consultation matters.

Another myth? That more products automatically mean better results. A thoughtful approach begins with your history, styling practices, scalp observations, lifestyle, goals, and questions. From there, education can help you make informed next steps.

At Restore Hair Now, we observe, educate, document, and individualize. We do not diagnose, and when a concern falls outside the scope of cosmetic trichology, referral to a licensed medical provider is appropriate.

Healthy hair care starts with better information—not assumptions.

What Is HTMA — And Why Might Your Hair Tell a Bigger Story?
Your hair doesn't just grow — it records. 🧬

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a lab test that looks at the mineral levels stored in a small hair sample. Because hair grows slowly over weeks and months, it can reflect a longer-term pattern of your body's mineral metabolism — not just a single snapshot in time, the way a blood test often does.

Here's the important part: HTMA doesn't diagnose anything. It's a piece of the puzzle — one more data point that, alongside your history, symptoms, and other labs, helps build a fuller picture of what might be contributing to hair and scalp changes.

As your Trichologist, I use tools like this to ask better questions — not to replace the conversation with your physician, but to add to it.

Stress doesn’t just live in your mind — it lives in your follicles too.

When your nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight, your body makes a decision: survival first, hair growth later. Chronic stress can push hair follicles into a resting phase early, which is why so many people notice increased shedding 2-3 months after a stressful season — a period, a loss, a major life change.

This is called telogen effluvium, and it’s one of the most common (and most treatable) forms of hair loss I see. The hard part isn’t diagnosing it. It’s helping clients understand that healing the nervous system is just as important as any topical treatment.

Your hair is often the last place stress shows up — and one of the first places it can start to heal once your body feels safe again.

👉 If you’ve noticed shedding after a hard season, you’re not imagining it. Let’s talk about what’s really going on.

Sometimes the cause of hair loss isn’t inside your body at all — it’s what your body is exposed to every day.
Hard water and mineral buildup, harsh styling chemicals, air pollution, even certain medications and supplements can all quietly stress the scalp and disrupt healthy growth cycles over time.
Environmental hair loss is often gradual, which makes it easy to miss until it’s more advanced.

The good news: this is one of the more controllable categories once it’s identified. Small changes — a clarifying routine, water filtration, ingredient awareness — can make a real difference.

This is also why I don’t recommend a one-size-fits-all product line. What’s stressing one client’s scalp may be completely different from what’s affecting yours.

👉 Curious what in your environment might be part of the picture? Let’s find out together.

Healthy hair doesn’t start at the scalp — it starts in the gut.
Low stomach acid can set off a chain reaction: poor protein breakdown → reduced nutrient absorption → low iron, zinc, and B12 → inflammation → weakened follicles → thinning and shedding.
You can be eating well and still not be nourishing your hair, if your gut isn’t absorbing what you’re feeding it.
This is why I never look at hair loss in isolation. The scalp tells a story — but so does the rest of the body.
👉 If this feels familiar, let’s talk. Book a consultation and we’ll look at the whole picture, not just the surface.

🚨 **We've been talking about inflammation all wrong.**

The word *inflammation* has almost become a bad word.

People hear it and immediately think, *"I need to get rid of it."*

But here's the truth...

**Your body actually needs inflammation.**

Without it, your body couldn't respond to an injury, fight an infection, or begin repairing damaged tissue.

So inflammation isn't the enemy.

**Uncontrolled or persistent inflammation is the problem.**

As a trichologist, I often meet people who are focused only on their hair.

"My edges are thinning."

"My hair is shedding."

"My scalp itches."

Those are real concerns—but they're only part of the story.

Hair doesn't live independently from the rest of your body.

The hair follicle is living tissue. It responds to your immune system, hormones, blood supply, nutrient status, and the environment surrounding it.

That's why I always say:

**Healthy hair is not just a scalp issue. Healthy hair begins with a healthy body.**

This week, I'm taking a step back and starting at the foundation.

Before we talk about scalp inflammation and hair loss, let's first understand **what inflammation actually is** and why your body creates it.

Because when you understand the body, you begin to understand the hair.

💬 I'd love to hear from you.

When you hear the word **"inflammation,"** what comes to mind?

Did you know that not all hair loss is the same?

One of the most common forms of permanent hair loss affecting Black women is Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA)—and many women don’t realize they have it until significant hair loss has already occurred.

Early signs may include:

✔️ Thinning at the crown
✔️ Scalp tenderness
✔️ Burning or itching
✔️ A widening part

The encouraging news is that early evaluation may help preserve the healthy follicles you still have.

Healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp.

Have you noticed changes at your crown?

✨ Hair Regeneration Starts From Within ✨

Did you know that healthy hair growth is influenced by more than just what you put on your scalp?

Key factors that impact hair growth include:

✔️ Stress management – elevated cortisol can contribute to increased shedding.
✔️ Hormonal balance – DHT is one of the leading causes of pattern hair loss.
✔️ Proper nutrition – amino acids, vitamins, and minerals are essential building blocks for strong hair.
✔️ Scalp health – inflammation, excess oil, and poor circulation can affect follicle performance.
✔️ Collagen and skin support – healthy skin and scalp create a stronger foundation for hair growth.

The most effective approach combines internal nutritional support with targeted scalp treatments to address hair loss from multiple angles.

Healthy hair isn’t just about what you apply externally—it’s about supporting the body, scalp, and follicles from the inside out.
