Melasma is a complex form of hyperpigmentation and is one of the trickiest skin concerns to correct since it’s influenced by hormones, genetics, UV exposure, heat, and inflammation. These triggers can signal melanocytes to produce excess melanin—which is why treating melasma requires more than simply exfoliating the surface.

For this client, we focused on a progressive approach conservatively using professional chemical peels + tyrosinase inhibitors to help interrupt excess pigment production while gradually lifting existing discoloration.

These products are crucial to reduce the formation of new pigment. Tyrosinase inhibitors suppress the enzyme that makes melanin and tinted mineral SPF uses iron oxides to help protect against visible light, which can trigger pigment production. It gives us an extra layer of protection beyond traditional UV coverage and helps protect the progress we’re making with the peels.

Melasma takes patience and consistency, but when we treat the pigment pathway instead of just “peeling it away” it can be beautifully controlled and corrected.
